BBI Mock Draft – DISCUSSION Thread

Matt G : 3/22/2020 7:25 pm
We will use this as a discussion thread to keep the picks thread uncluttered. These threads will be used for the duration of the draft.

Once a team is on the clock, they will have two hours to make a selection. If a team goes on the clock after 4pm, their two-hour window will roll over to the next day. For example, if you go on the clock at 4:30pm, you will have until 9:30 am to make a selection. Picks may be made between 6pm and 9am if GMs are online and following the draft thread. The time limit only applies during the 9am to 6pm timeframe. If the two hour time limit expires, I will make a pick using any list that the GM for the team has sent me in advance (send lists to the email address in my profile) or in the absence of a list, I will use the GBN Big Board with a little discretion so as not make an obvious dumb pick (i.e. Kansas City won’t be taking a QB in the 1st round this year). If a GM misses two consecutive picks without providing a prospect list or making some form of contact with me (email or posting on the draft thread) the spot will be reassigned to one of the BBIers who have expressed an interest to fill the vacancy.

Please utilize the BBI Mock Draft Spreadsheet . The spreadsheet contains the draft order (RD1-6) by team and GM with a fairly comprehensive list of prospects based on the GBN Big Board (as well as several other prospects that did not make the GBN Big Board). I will try to keep the spreadsheet and thread updated as often as possible… Good luck!

Madubuike was waay higher up on mly list
Andy in Halifax : 3/29/2020 10:07 am : link
That is great value there imo.
13 WR’s picked in top 78
Rick in Dallas : 3/29/2020 10:15 am : link
Indeed a deep class with the potential of another 10 WR’s picked by the end of the 4th round.
Got some of our more active GMs coming up

Malik Harrison is great value at number 79 in mock draft
Rick in Dallas : 3/29/2020 10:21 am : link
This is proving to be a deep draft. Teams who maneuver for additional picks are going to get some terrific players.

Amen. As Matt can attest to, when I sent him a 3 player list for Pick 60 (since we were through pick 57 at the time), Madubuike was #2 on my list behind Dobbins (#3 is still on the board)

I considered Madubuike as well with my 2nd round pick. Just felt Wilson filled a more pressing need which tipped the scales in his favor. Still, Madubuike would have been a nice selection there.

Thanks yeah I think he'll be a really solid starter for a while. Probably not a great fit with NYG with the addition of Martinez, but someone will be happy.

I was considering Harrison for my 3rd round pick. The Pack need LBs, bad. Was hoping he would fall further. Oh well.
OAK (Amtoft) checked in...
Matt G : 3/29/2020 1:20 pm : link
His two picks should be coming in a bit
Sorry for the delay....
Amtoft : 3/29/2020 1:49 pm : link
I can’t believe we made it to my 3rd round picks before the draft even started! Amazing work Matt and many many great picks. Saying that I went with ...

Noah Igbin blah blah blah... Noah is raw switch from WR to CB only two years ago but I love his physicality and his ability to play special teams. There were a slew of CBs I had rated close, but Noah I think has the most upside and potential and I am gambling he will grow into a starting CB with a fall back of at least being a very good ST player.

Cam Akers... what could have, should have been. He is very talented and just got stuck playing for a mess of a team. Florida State has shockingly bad blocking for a team with so much talent. Now he needs to hold the ball better but I think there is huge talent here waiting to blow up. The Raiders took Jacobs last year but we need more depth and Jacobs struggled some with injuries.
Really like Amtoft's CB pick
Torrag : 3/29/2020 1:59 pm : link
Yeah he's raw but on tools alone I have him as a borderline Top 50 prospect. Say I downgrade him a tick for experience and you still have a nice value selection.
If Hennessy and Biadasz are actually the 69th and 70th picks...
Big Blue Blogger : 3/29/2020 2:00 pm : link
... the torches and pitchforks will be out over the Giants trading #68 and a future pick for the rights to Leonard Williams. Not saying either C would have been a better use of the pick, but boy is that a glaring hole in the roster.

Agreed. Starting to plan for my next two picks and he did make short list
Cowboys selection of Ashtyn Davis
Rick in Dallas : 3/29/2020 2:19 pm : link
Cowboys signed Clinton-Dix to a 1 year stop gap at FS. Davis will play this year on special team and certain situations. He will definitely be a starter in year 2. Heck he may beat out Clinton-Dix.
My first 3 picks all on the defensive side of ball which needs upgrading.

Another name off short list
It's a shame Davis couldn't run at the Combine
Matt G : 3/29/2020 2:26 pm : link
Given the injury... With his track background, he likely would have timed well...
Sorry guys..

I jumped the gun by 1 pick. I misread email sent.

Ok so a name that a lot of people are probably surprised I passed
On considering Go Bears! I love Ashtyn and this is a great pick, however I question whether he can stay healthy in the NFL. Since the Raiders don’t really need Safety I passed. So talented but he gets dinged up or hurt and sometimes playing hurt Hawkins would some times out play him. If he can stay healthy this is a huge steal!
Thankfully Denver didn’t want Robinson
Mike in NY : 3/29/2020 2:39 pm : link
It is hard for me to do lists and coding on my iPad so perhaps someone just wants to format some of the recent picks so nobody gets confused as to where we are
A lot of picks were made but I am going to talk about
Amtoft : 3/29/2020 2:47 pm : link
Two of them that stand out to me as players I really like. Let’s start with JK Dobbins I have rated very closely with Swift and Taylor as late first and early second. Who will be first one off the board? I think I rate it Taylor, Dobbins, and then Swift. Again tho it is close. I dock Swift a little for fumbles, Taylor for amount of work, and Dobbins for not running a 40 yet. I think all 3 will be amazing and if Dobbins runs in the 4.4 range he could go first out of the 3. Great pick.

Second is a 3rd QB in Jalen Hurts... all this guy has done is win and perform at a high level at two of the top colleges in football. I have him as the 4th best QB in the draft and think he is better than Love who many have as a first rounder. His release is to slow which I hate but I think it could be correctable. He is more grinder on the ground than say Lamar Jackson who is sudden, but he is a leader and I think he can play in the NFL. Maybe not star but a top 15-20 starter which is pretty good.
With Cam Akers sniped off the board by the Raiders
YAJ2112 : 3/29/2020 3:20 pm : link
The Lions take the best OT remaining on their board in Charles.
Pats have 3 of the next 14 picks...
Torrag : 3/29/2020 3:51 pm : link
just doing my due diligence studying the board. Been off the clock since taking Jordan Love #23. This stretch is going to make or break my draft.
Bradlee Anae really stood out here for me...
Torrag : 3/29/2020 4:06 pm : link
I had him ranked quite a bit higher. I did seriously consider one other prospect but with Van Noy moving on this was the right guy.

His second half of 2019 was the light coming on for a player with a lot of talent and this dog will hunt...your QB.
Madubuike And Davis
NoGainDayne : 3/29/2020 6:00 pm : link
Were my two man board sent to Matt 3 picks away it was very hard to decide between the two but ultimately Madubuike I felt profiled with a ceiling not quite as high as Davis but a much safer floor
Dang mongoes in Louisiana

Anae was on my short list. He has been my top edge guy for awhile now. Great pick!
The Vikings need to rebuild their secondary.
johnnyb : 3/29/2020 7:51 pm : link
Pride adds a outside corner to the mix. I was hoping Saahidiq Charles would have fell to me but Pride does address a glaring need in the Minnesota defensive backfield.

Thank you I was watching your CB slide earlier and was very interested but you snatched him.
I think AO will be a great addition to Houston

We cant replace Hopkins with one player so hopefully Albert Okwuegbunam can take on some of that production and be a good outlet for Watson.

Amtoft : 3/29/2020 8:22 pm : link
Done pretty good building their Defense with exception of CB... After getting a guy that needs some coaching and experience, I switch to a most likely slot CB. This guy is glue! So fluid and tight in coverage. If he was 10 lbs heavier and 2-3 inches taller he is going round 1... not a strong tackler either but he is a perfect lock down slot CB. May be a little early but this is the type of 3rd rounder that can make an impact year one being a package specialist.
Ravens have selected at 92
Mike in NY : 3/29/2020 8:40 pm : link
As you can tell from my posts, Wink Martindale was not happy that I spent both of my 2nd Rounders on offensive skill position players. Was desperately hoping that Arnette would fall to 92, but it was not meant to be. There were a few other players that I considered with this pick, but at the end of the day the deciding factor was I saw a drop off at Edge Rusher and I didn’t want to get cute. Judon is playing under Franchise tender, Jaylon Ferguson has not developed as expected, and there is a lack of depth. Zuniga excelled at the combine, but needs to be more consistent with his play. That being said, if he wasn’t so inconsistent I never would have had a shot at him at 92.

Pick is in for Green Bay
MadPlaid : 3/29/2020 9:45 pm : link
went with Harrison Bryant, TE. With Graham's departure, that left the available weapons at TE limited. Felt Bryant makes for a good compliment to last years TE draft pick, Jace Sternberger. The two of them together are going to make for matchup problems, plus two TE sets will benefit Aaron Jones quite a bit.

I like Bryant's size and his ability to catch the ball in tight coverage. Plus being voted a first-team All-American and winning the John Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end makes him my kind of draft pick.

Lynn Bowden has Andy’s name all over him! That is my guess... a safety/LB in the 1st, a slot WR/RB in the second and a slot WR/QB in the 3rd
Good morning

Depending on how I feel I will either post it after New England picks or after Andy picks because as much as I am completely joking with my comments towards Andy I know some others are actually serious and Andy does not deserve that.

I would have run to the podium for him. Still a guy or two worth drafting still available though.

Good luck with your pick. Thanks for the comments on Davis.
I won't say who, but I do have a guy ready to pick.
Andy in Halifax : 3/30/2020 9:02 am : link
I combing through a list of 5 or 6 others to decide who I like best when Torrag inevitably takes the guy I want.
Good morning fellas
Torrag : 3/30/2020 10:12 am : link
Slept in a bit as work is closed for the quarantine. Looking things over. Think it's a lock who I'll pick but haste makes waste. Pick will be in shortly.
Cmon Torrag, just don't take my guy!
Andy in Halifax : 3/30/2020 10:15 am : link
.
TE Adam Trautman is the pick
Torrag : 3/30/2020 10:37 am : link
Pats TE production plummeted from amongst the best in the NFL to the cellar last season. In Trautman they get a guy with the combo of size and athletic tools to play both ways. Needs some blocking technique work but he has legit upside. Has stellar hands and knows how to find the endzone. I have to say I had him ranked quite a bit higher than this so very happy to get him here.
I had two guys pegged for NE pick
Andy in Halifax : 3/30/2020 10:38 am : link
That was one, nice pick Torrag. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the next one right after me.

My pick is ready.

Yup, that’s a Patriot pick, for sure.
