The value of #4 likely depends on Herbert's market in top 12

MeadowlandsMike : 3/22/2020 7:41 pm
I am assuming the Tua's to Miami just makes too much sense. He's healthy and interviewed great. They acquired the draft capital for this moment and their owner went on record and said exactly that after the season. Detroit at 3 has almost nothing to lose by dropping two spots. Young will likely go at 2 (despite rumors otherwise). They pick up Miami's last 1st rounder or one of their seconds at minimum.

If 2 of these 4 teams have interest: Chargers, Panthers, Jax, or Vegas we have competition to trade up. Giants probably have no interest to trade back further than 9 and 12 I would assume would be the max.

The ideal of course should Tua go to Miami would be Chargers and Panthers to both want Herbert. That means our max drop is only a couple of spots and likely still getting OT1 or worst OT2.

As long as there are more teams needing QBs then QBs....

The Giants should have a market to trade down.

Chargers and Jacksonville are key partners
It may also depend on the number of free agent QBs and

how those teams look at long term VS short term solutions.

Sounds logical unless DG and Judge want a player at #4
TMS : 3/22/2020 8:38 pm : link
because they think he is BPA. DG took BPAs the last two drafts so why would he change that strategy now ? We will see.
Don't discount Miami

trying to protect itself at 5 from being jumped. But I agree its all about Herbert and other teams wanting him. There a lot of posters who think you can automatically trade down but if the phone doesn't ring you can't deal.
Spot on, Mike.
yatqb : 3/22/2020 8:53 pm : link
It’s doubtful that we can trade down successfully unless a few teams fall in love with Herbert.

Hoping that the Chargers and Jags love him.
Pretty much. Some team is going to dump a ton of picks

On Detroit. IMO Miami. He can sit behind Fitzintercpetion for a bit to makes sure he’s healthy and they have the most to offer. They we need to pray the chargers want Herbert. As I’d rather not see the Giants drop too much farther

If Chargers want Herbert the Chargers also need to have a strong bough concern another team may jump them for him.
I can tell you, there

WILL BE A STRONG MARKET FOR HERBERT.

Caps for emphasis because I'm so certain of this. I'd be more surprised to see Herbert on the board at the #6 pick than I would be if he went in the top 3 before Tua.

And I still like Tua to go before Herbert.

For me, I like the Panthers as the ultimate aggressors. They are clearly moving on from Cam, and have an incredibly motivated 1st year head coach that just signed a bridge QB, and unless they are sold on Jordan Love or another QB such as Jake Fromm, and I think that's unlikely, they are going to have to work the phones to move up, and they'll do so to get in front of Miami.

The hope here is that Miami doesn't move up unless it's with us. I would like to see the Panthers move to the #4 spot, but I also wonder what the dynamic would be between them and Gettleman. Is it a plus or minus in terms of being trading partners that Gettleman is their former GM?

Perhaps they move to #3 with the Lions. Should the Redskins stay at #2 and take Young, that would leave the Chargers and the Dolphins competing for Tua, I would suppose. However, I could definitely see the Chargers sticking at #6 and taking Jordan Love. Not saying that would happen, but it's in the realm of possibility.

But my bold prediction is that the Panthers will be aggressive in moving up. The bad news is that they will almost assuredly want to trade up to #2 or #3 to secure their guy. They aren't going to roll the dice that their QB gets to #4.

I'm hoping for another aggressor, perhaps even later than #7, to want to trade to #4 to get ahead of the Dolphins and Chargers.

Obviously, if two teams trade up ahead of us for QBs, it's not the worst thing in the world to just take Chase Young, or to even listen to offers and take the high bidder for him

But hear me now, Panthers are moving up.
I see a lot of Tom Bardy in Hebert ...
Manny in CA : 3/23/2020 1:41 am : link

Smart, big arm (that Tom later developed), accurate, physical build.

Tua & Burrow are better athletes, but something tells me that with good coaching he's going to be a better pro.

I agree. I’m just not as sure About him as I am about Tua I’m convinced Det is going to trade out unless the Redskins take Tua but I don’t see that happening. I’m about 50/50 the Giants will. It is Chicago could. On once themselves Trubisky was a good prospect Herbert is a slam dunk compared to him
Hopeful the Redskins
90.Cal : 3/23/2020 6:41 am : link
Take Simmons, Okudah or a OT... pushing Young down to Detroit and the trade partner for Tua down to us at 4... maybe we can get a 2nd and 6 overall from the Chargers or the 9th overall and 20th overall picks from the Jaguars.
When it comes to the QB's
Lines of Scrimmage : 3/23/2020 6:45 am : link
I think there are many questions unanswered.

Does Rivera think Haskins is the answer?

Will Marrone/GM be allowed to make a bold move to move up? How secure are they in keeping their jobs?

What is the real health status of Stafford?

I think Gruden was very high on Herbert last year. Was this true and what does he really think of Carr?
So much depends
Jay in Toronto : 3/23/2020 9:11 am : link
On how hard Detroit falls for Okuda.

And a red wheelbarrow.
Mike I think your scenarios for Miami makes sense
joeinpa : 3/23/2020 9:20 am : link
Question, if the rumors regarding Rivera s interest in bringing in a quarterback are true, and he decides to forego the veteran route, i. e. Newton, Winston: What do you expect Detroit to do?

I think they take Young. If that does not play out, Giants most likely take Chase. But assuming Young is gone,

I still believe Tampa might move up for a quarterback and certainly the Chargers.

In any event Giants are in pretty good position at 4.
It doesn't really matter if Herbert's value is top 10, or even top 20
stoneman : 3/23/2020 9:44 am : link
You have 3 QB needy teams sitting at 5, 6, and 7. They are playing against each other, so even if Tuo/Herberts value is not top 5, you have to position yourself relative to this cluster of QB needy teams. IMO, Tua/Herbert/Love wont get past this cluster.

IMO, Mia is in a tough spot as they have to guess at what cost will Det take to move down. If LAC and CAR only have this years and next years #1s, they would only have to match 5 and 27 to move to 3 (even 2 for that matter). If you assume that Jax and LV having 2 1s and next years 1, you also have to match 3 1s (big for rebuilding teams which Wash and Det are). Doubt anybody would move from 2/3 to past 7. 9 and 16 are too far for 3 #1s (maybe not).
Herbert
Coach Red Beaulieu : 3/23/2020 10:54 am : link
Is a much better prospect than Trubisky. Vis-a-vis, ergo, concordantly....

George, I agree with you ... they key though is what Jax will do. In a sane world, they can’t possibly think Minshew is the future, but they’ve been doing weird stuff this offseason.
I Hope The Giants

Are sold on Jones, with the potential of Herbert and maybe even Tua, sitting there at 4. You shouldn’t mess around with the most important position in the game if they aren’t sold. I’m not sure Jones would go in the first round this draft with this crop of qbs.

If I was DG and JJ at the very least I would send out signals that is the case.
Trade down with Chargers pick up their 2nd rounder
MeadowlandsMike : 3/23/2020 7:57 pm : link
