NGT: Mehta NYDN: NYJ closing in on deal with Jordan Jenkins

Defenderdawg : 3/23/2020 2:24 pm

Once thought to be a Giants’ FA target:

Manish Mehta (@MMehtaNYDN)

Source: Jets are closing in on a deal with OLB Jordan Jenkins.

A big move for NYJ to bring back their sack leader from last year.
this means they are out

on Clowney.
Jenkins might have been the last ascending player option

for NYG.

jmo but once they added Fackrell, Jenkins didn't really fit unless his price tag was a lot cheaper than the earlier speculation since they (and Carter) have duplicative skill sets and all need playing time to develop.

so post-Fackrell I think if they add another veteran edge it's going to be:
- a higher end/different skill set (Clowney, Floyd)
- a cost effective depth player (Matthews, maybe Golden?)

Plus a likely draft pick.
Bart Scott wasn't impressed with Jenkins

for whatever that's worth.

I heard we were still talking to Jenkins, and a draft pick is definitely possible. Now, it could be Golden and a draft pick, but I'm definitely looking in the draft. Would really like to plug in Gross-Matos.
If it's for his reported ask in the $13M range...
Torrag : 3/23/2020 4:13 pm : link
no thanks.
1 year deal for $5M
Strahan91 : 3/23/2020 5:17 pm : link
Wow. Quite a discount from what he was asking for this time a week ago

I know that - but they showed interest in him when he got cut which I believe was after signing Fackrell, and I'd speculate it's because he had a skill set that wasn't as duplicative as Jenkins.

I agree with Jonc that the draft is where we will likely see someone added 2. Baun, Anae, and Okwara would all seemingly add something and could go within range of our pick in the 30's.
For that price I would have signed him...
Torrag : 3/23/2020 8:06 pm : link
but it could be if he wasn't going to get a big salary bump and he's comfortable there why move at all.
