NFT: NHL Thread: The Athletic Writers Pick the Award Winners

so depressing.

41 writers voted:

Hart: Draisatl (MacKinnon and Panarin 2/3)

Norris: Josi (Carlson and Hedman 2/3)

Selke: Couturier (Cirelli and Bergeron 2/3)

Vezina: Hellebuyck in the biggest landslide (Rask, Vasilevsky and Bishop tied for 2)

Calder: Q. Hughes (Makar and Blackwood 2/3)

Adams: Vigneault (Tortorella and Sullivan 2/3)

GM: Sakic (Sweeney 2 and Gorton/Brisbois tied for 3)

Hard to argue with any, but I think Bergeron is on for name recognition at this point. Love his game, role model player, but lost a step. Pasta is the future in Boston. I might have even had Pasta in the top 3 for Hart.

Funny seeing the last two Rangers coaches as top 2 vote getters for Adams.

The Canadian Hockey League has officially shut down... including the Memorial Cup. @HabsUnfiltered

First time ever. WW2, great depression, vietnam, etc. no other world event stopped it, until now.

some historical perspective about our current time.

hockey is nearly impossible, but if you could ever assure yourself of the #1 pick, 2022 is the year to do it.

Shane Wright has proven he's no joke. He tied McDavid's point record for a 15-year old in the OHL.

He's the next McDavid/Crosby.

Here is one person's top 10 for 2022

thought I had and I know I'm talking to myself at this point, lol, but holy shit how bad was the trade deadline for teams who "bought" if they cancel this season?

Canes traded a 1st
Lightning traded a 1st (2 of them)
Islanders traded a 1st
Bruins traded a 1st
Penguins traded a 1st

and there were many 2nd and 3rd round picks.....

Hah, that's a good point.

I re-read Losing the Edge (94-95) Rangers. There were some things in there that were just stupid:

1. The Blues offered Brett Hull as compensation for Keenan. The Rangers said no.
2. The Red Wings talking about moving Scotty Bowman to scouting to hire Keenan.
3. Keenan's behavior generally.

There were a handful of other things that had me shaking my head.

I miss hockey. Haven't skated in a few weeks, nothing to watch.

I meant:

I re-read Losing the Edge (about the 94-95 Rangers).

I'm sure you figured that out, though.
I miss it too

men's league hockey was just about the last thing to be canceled in MA.

I guess they felt like no one would complain if a bunch of middle aged men gathered in a bacteria filled rink and beat each other up for an hour and then hung out in a bacteria filled locker room drinking beer for two hours after the game.

but apparently someone cared.

This years draft class
pjcas18 : 3/25/2020 10:00 am : link
has a solid showing vs other years in CHL.

I like Rossi a lot, but he's like a Caufield clone. I think MTL needs some size.

Last night, I snuck data from five more CHL seasons onto http://pick224.com

This year’s draft class still looks very, very good:

Love this
