Given the health issues of a few years ago, I can understand it.

Another reason Looney re-signed with them? He's the starter now.

guillain-barre, might have something to do with it.

and he's a super smart guy - OL - 12-15 years of head butting big men - shit gets old, especially when you have options
I wonder if
Vin_Cuccs : 3/23/2020 6:22 pm : link
the Guillain–Barré syndrome he struggled with last year has anything to do with this.
Wow. Martin and Smith have had some injuries, too.
bceagle05 : 3/23/2020 6:23 pm : link
As we saw with our great 07-08 line, the window closes quickly.
Wow

Big loss for them.
retiring at 29 isn't that surprising - Snee was 29 the year of SB46
Eric on Li : 3/23/2020 6:24 pm : link
and that was basically his last real year. He played 19 games after that and officially retired at age 31 but I remember him never quite being the same player after that SB year. Or maybe it was just that the OL was so bad from that point forward.
Oof
illmatic : 3/23/2020 6:27 pm : link
Right after the free agent centers sign elsewhere too. It sucks because that's going to be another team looking to draft a center. The Giants will probably have to take someone in round 2.

He wasn't his all pro self last year. Two years for an olineman to get back to previous level after something like that. At his age, and his new found perspective on his health, I'm sure it did. At his age he probably figured it wasn't worth it and he's got money.
Huge blow to the Cowboys.
FStubbs : 3/23/2020 6:55 pm : link
Guess they'll be going center in the draft.
Wow
Jay on the Island : 3/23/2020 7:06 pm : link
I bet this is the main reason why Joe Looney decided to re-sign with Dallas instead of sign with the Giants.

My sister had this.
I am shocked he came back.
My sister never fully recovered and has had to walk with a cane.
It has also come back after time to a much lesser degree.
Best of luck to him.

Ravens had an interior Guard

retire as well. People thinking we can get OL later might be disappointed.
Feel bad for anyone suffering and can’t work the job he or she loves

to develop as insurance against Frederick's injury. He's a good prospect. He and Looney will compete. Depending on what they think in-house they may feel they're prepared for this.
Yeah,

it's pretty amazing that he came back and played for one more season. GBS is no joke.

Cowboys lose a terrific player and even better person in the community.
I wish Frederick good health.

He came back from the disease and played well which is crazy. For all accounts a really good guy. Never like to see this happen.
This is a prime example why you have to win it all

In the tiniest of windows, timing-wise, in the nfl. When you’re dominant and have continuity it will only last for a flicker of time. Usually if that opportunity is missed, it’s over. Not a lot of teams are able to adapt and regroup. Seattle and the Pats are probably the best at doing that. And Seattle hasn’t even been able to get back to the dance.

Pitt was good at it for a while and so was GB, but those are prime examples of teams with QBs that can over come a lot of warts for a team. Dallas would be crazy to sign Dak long term at this point if it’s not team friendly. Unless they land a couple sure fire OL in the next couple months. And even then those lineman won’t necessarily operate the way that OL did for that small window.

I bet good money if Romo hadn’t had the back injuries and got to play with that OL and Zeke and Cooper, they would have at the least made the Super Bowl. Over teams like Atlanta and Philly. Dak isn’t the type of QB you spend big on unless the pieces around him are elite.

Good post, agreed for the most part. It seems like the only price for a young franchise QB is the biggest deal ever though. I don't think Dallas will get him on a "cheap" deal.

If you were the Cowboys what would you give Dak?

I’m not a GM and I don’t know what would be considered the Very top salary for tier two QBs but I’d make him highest paid of tier two of QBs. And if he wanted to walk, I wouldn’t blame him. Because there is probably some bottom dweller team with an owner that knows they aren’t gonna win so he can make money selling jerseys on the “hope” that the GM for the cowboys got it wrong by letting him walk.

I think in that case Dallas could either grab a stop gap qb like Cam (maybe not him specifically but someone of that stature that can be had for cheaper but has some pelts on the wall) and then think of a way to get my hands on Lawrence next draft.

And hell, they could get lucky and someone like Tua could fall unexpectedly and they could snag him up and make a go of it right now. Also if I were calling the shots for Dallas and let Dak walk, which I would
If he wanted to be the highest paid QB, if grab Fromm. I think Fromm could do exactly what Dak is doing now but with some obvious growing pains. I also think Fromm could turn out to be legit and they could have him on the super cheap for 4-5 years.

But to answer your question, top paid tier two QB. Otherwise I’d let him walk. I don’t even know if I would’ve franchised him at this point since the coaching staff is gone and he’s bound to have some set backs with MM as his new coach. Unless it turns out that MM really was the creator of Rodgers and not vice versa. Who knows.
