Rumor: Clowney rejected $17.5 million annually from Dolphins

Vin_Cuccs : 3/23/2020 6:32 pm
Saw this from who I believe is a Dolphins beat writer on Twitter.

Apparently late last week, Clowney turn down a multi-year contract with approximately $17.5 million annually.

Total years and guaranteed money was unknown.

Again, just a rumor. Unconfirmed.
Just sign back with Seattle and be done with....

In Miami that deal is worth aprox 19 million annually
gidiefor : Mod : 3/23/2020 6:37 pm : link
due to their lack of state income tax
he may not
Andy in Boston : 3/23/2020 6:38 pm : link
get that now
Well, it was obvious that he wasn’t signing with us
Saos1n : 3/23/2020 6:43 pm : link
But I think this seals it

$17.5 annually and no state income tax in Florida? We would have to pony up big time and that’s not going to happen

rumor was the Giants were hanging around in the $18M for one year range.
it must be nice to be able to turn down $17.5

The one thing I hope his agent is factoring in is how much money is left in the pool.

There has to just be a small number of teams left that can make a multi-year splash at that size contract.

Need more than AAV

If the way the guaranteed money was structured it made it easy to cut him in the near future he might have decided it was not worth it
good luck

Matt,

With the recent signings of Lewis and Coleman you would have to think the waiting for Clowney is done. If we sign an ER I would guess it would be Golden for another year. The only team I heard was interested in Golden was Atlanta and they signed Fowler.
If we’re going to eat a $16M cap hit for a player like Williams
Metnut : 3/23/2020 7:28 pm : link
might as well add another $4M to the cap hit and get a stud.

Washington does not have a state income tax either, as do New Hampshire, Texas and Tennessee(Florida).

Unless it was 17.5 guaranteed a year, who knows if it was a mistake.

One thing we know, there is still plenty of money on the sidelines, and not many exciting players out there.

I bet he ends up doing just fine.

I think he's going back to Seattle. However, you can always find money if they need to, especially on a 1 year deal. However, I agree with you that when it's all said and done, Golden will come back to the Giants.

They still have 16M available, they can rescind the tag until LW signs it
For reference

Vernon’s contract he signed with the giants averaged 17 mil a year.

I’d reject it too.

He’s a stupid as Leveon Bell was.
LauderdaleMatty : 3/23/2020 8:44 pm : link
He’s kit getting 21 million per season. The guy never got 10 sacks playing next to JJ Watt. He’s got amazing talent. Anne it’s never come even close to showing it on the field. Problem it h about Williams. At ready that kid played his ass off. This guy as been mailing it in since college

IIRC Bus Cook is his agent. He’s been around forever. He knows no one is giving him a multi year deal for anything close to 21 million a year. He’s got into to get another one year deal. You won’t a multi year rap to get money up front and take a little less. He will somehow have to survive on less. Get the feeling he’s going to one of those guys who’s broke 5-10 years after football
What is that after ny taxes......

Can you say if the Giants have a plan beyond Clowney
his next move will be fitting for a McDonalds uniform

Last week. I mentioned in a thread, you'd have to search for it if you want the exact date.

Not heard anything specific. Reading the tea leaves tho, there's not much left besides Golden and the draft.
Clowney may hold out for $20M a year lol?!
