finding a contractor. I was looking for some contractors - several came over, took measurements - then never heard from them again. Back in NY if they didn't want to take job, just about all of them would tell you they were too busy, job too big - too small. Bunch of guys just took measurements and poof - disappeared. Just seemed weird. For future reference - what type of work do you do?
So far - I've had pretty good luck with contractors. But, latching onto one seems to a bit of an adventure. Have had several friends and acquainatnces say the same thing.
Thanks for responding
Nashville is booming, money all over, everyone is busy
And now the tornado and the insurance work is adding to that.
I wasn't planning on working when we relocated but am now in the process of getting licensed and insured because I've met a few people who want some work done and just when I think I'm out, they drag me back in.
The problem here and everywhere is finding good reliable subs. I'm already vetting electricians and plumbers and finish carpenters.
As far as callbacks go, people just seem a lot more laid back down here. I can hook you up with a contractor that I know that's good and honest and I can probably answer questions you may have.
I hear you about the building boom. I was thinking of building but when I looked at some of the developments - was concerned that they were putting them up to fast. Bought one that was 15 yars old - allowing time for the warts to show.
We had the tall skinny virus which is still infecting the city. Still going up everywhere and built as quickly and cheaply as possible. Hit up a mod for my email if you want more information. Happy to help no obligation.
I do not like the looks of those things. Buying a new house that resembles a series of hallways stacked on top of one another- don't see the draw.
Nashville is pretty easy to get in and out of, especially for social and night life. Think some people may be overestimating the value of living within the formal confines of the city.
Easy to get into or out of during rush hour. My wife works in the city so we bought on the west side. She gets to work in 8 minutes. I would have loved a cheaper house out in the Sticks but the commute would have been brutal. We like our location. We can be in the gulch or the farmers market in 15 minutes on the weekend or Franklin in 25 minutes but still have the suburban life where we're most comfortable.
Lived in the city our first few months and was fine but not our speed.
I do not have to be at work during normal rush hour. I commute from Hendersonville. So, I have some choices depending on traffic - down 65, Briley Parkway, Clarksville Pike. It is about a 35-40 minute drive but it's pretty smooth. Generally very few issues and not much 2 mph driving except where 65 it ties into 24.
I think coming from south of Nashville seems to be a lot worse. Again, at night for dinner, show, bars - seem to be able to get in and out relatively easy - at least in my direction it is.
