Which QB will Giants take?

lugnut : 3/24/2020 11:20 am
We're starting to see some 7-round mocks on this board and elsewhere but in none of them is a QB taken. An easy oversight, I guess, but it DOES seem to me an oversight.

Our current backups are both 33 and neither has exactly shaken the world. We took mid-rounders Webb and Lauletta amid the relative safety of the Eli era -- now gone -- and we have a plethora of late-round picks coming up.

Just screams to me "developmental QB" time. I HATE to use that term because we haven't been able to develop shite at the position in... ever? (Or at OL, for that matter.) I don't think it's an if or maybe, I think it's which/who/when? Thoughts?

Why would we waste a pick on a QB?
Rudy5757 : 3/24/2020 11:32 am : link
It makes no sense when we just signed a backup and have a 2nd year QB we like. I would say unless we really like a guy in the 7th round we are not taking a QB.

This team has so many needs and QB isnt one of them at this point.
IDK, maybe James Morgan?

Development type to be on the practice squad. This coupled with Tanney likely to be cut and us carrying 2 active.

Don't have a name for you, in these scenarios beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If the Princeton kid doesn't get drafted, maybe him.

developmental QB is not a bad idea. With Judge and new coaching staff, they will be putting in a new Offense and to have a developmental guy learn it along with Daniel Jones would be most efficient.

Until you start seeing better Offensive Tackle play (drafting some would help), Daniel Jones is going to take his lumps and our backup QBs are going to get into games.

Not a pleasant thought but count on it.

But, we should absolutely draft a developmental QB. As the OP said, our backups aren’t young & Daniel Jones missed 2 games last year.
Who knows if they use a pick

Investing serious capital (money / draft choice) in a QB who won't play this year unless everything really goes to hell in a hand basket would be a very dumb thing to do. Plus, any 3rd day QB isn't a much better prospect that a rookie FA anyway.

They already signed Colt McCoy to back up Jones, and AT is still on the roster, too, so one of these guys will be the second QB.

Sign an OFA or a journeyman who is on the street and figure that this player will be on the practice squad this season.

The giants brought in Jared lorenzen
TrueBlue56 : 3/24/2020 9:22 pm : link
As an undrafted free agent in 2004. They continued to bring in late to undrafted draft picks throughout Eli's career from lorenzen, Andre Woodson (6th round), Rhett Bomar (5th round), Ryan Nassib (4th round), Davis Webb (3rd round) and Kyle Lauletta (4th round).

It does not hurt to bring in a late round to an undrafted quarterback as a developmental player. It does not matter who the backup quarterbacks are or their age.

I wouldn't draft a quarterback any earlier than the 6th round, but they can certainly take a flier on one this year.

We have Colt McCoy!

Best QB name of all time! Give the guy a chance 😁
