Trent Williams

Bradshaw's Decal : 3/24/2020 12:09 pm
Would be a great get. I would trade a 2nd (this year or next) and a player or a 5th for him. Perfect stopgap 3 to 4 year player for us. Gives draft flexibility... What say bbi?
I'd make that trade
Mike from Ohio : 3/24/2020 12:11 pm : link
but I doubt the Redskins want to trade him to a division rival without a steep overpay.

what Williams will want/deserve. Yes he would be nice, but not sure that is the direction they want to go.

and NO.

No way do I give the Skins draft capital for a player who has been injured, missed a ton of time and may well be on the downside of his career.

Free Agent, sure I get a good deal done and then bring him on. No way I trade for him and have to give him a new deal.
LOL!
mdthedream : 3/24/2020 12:13 pm : link
Like the Redskins are going to trade him to the Giants.
I'd rather draft our own
JonC : 3/24/2020 12:14 pm : link
to match our timeframe and develop him with the rest of the young core.

TW has a history of playing at a high level, but also the injuries tally and constant bitching about his contract.
He has been out of the game for a while
SCGiantsFan : 3/24/2020 12:14 pm : link
My preference would be to build through the draft and keep the team young. Not sure what is contract demands would be. I like where we are with the cap, in regards to next. The contracts this FA, where structured wisely. Not tied into any one, really long term. Hopefully we can resign some of our own home grown players.
No.
AcidTest : 3/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
His age and injury history are preclusive, especially given his contract demands and the cost in terms of draft capital and players needed to acquire him.

Too many injury issues, clubhouse disturbances, and he wants an insane contract or he won't report.
Washington
Bradshaw's Decal : 3/24/2020 12:16 pm : link
Might not want to trade with us... But at his age and position he really isn't in a position to embarrass them. I guess the best offer takes him. Snyder is a reactive guy,so you never know. I'd be surprised if they straight out release him though.

Best Case Scenario
aGiantGuy : 3/24/2020 12:21 pm : link
Would be to wait for his release and pounce then. He played at a top 5 level in 2018. Of course we’re interested.
Doesn’t make sense for this team
Dave in PA : 3/24/2020 12:22 pm : link
I’m not trading a second round pick this year (especially) or next. Trent Williams doesn’t turn this team into a contender. No single player turns this Giants team into a contender. Now the Eagles or Seahawks may feel differently about such a proposition.
Solders not
Bradshaw's Decal : 3/24/2020 12:30 pm : link
Part of the solution either... We need players this year, next year and years after. At the right price I'd definitely get him. You can't just say not this year... Good players make a difference. There are so many reasons to pursue him. He's got at least 4 high level years, and I hope to be a winner before that.
Why??
Jay on the Island : 3/24/2020 12:33 pm : link
Not only do they need to give up an early 2nd but they need to pay him. The Giants are not ready to compete next year why invest so much in a 32 year old OT when they could just use that pick on a young draft pick with a cap number $10+ less than Williams. I’m sorry trading for Williams makes no sense.
Stay the course
JonC : 3/24/2020 12:34 pm : link
If we're picking high in the draft again, and we probably will be, we'll get the young, hungry talent. We might even get the future LT at #4 next month.

Patience.
I get it
Bradshaw's Decal : 3/24/2020 12:37 pm : link
But we've made other questionable Williams trades before... 😂
Ate you out of your mind?
Big Blue '56 : 3/24/2020 12:56 pm : link
Give up choices and sign him to big bucks? He’s 32 years old. Many of you have emphatically stated we’re years away from seriously contending, right? Build from the draft

If they made this trade, I’d seriously consider not following the

Team anymore. That’s how incompetent it would be.

There will be strong interest from a number of playoff contenders is my guess, anyway.

This is a deep OT draft class and there will be some good options available in round 2 if the Giants do not take one in round 1. Isaiah Wilson, Ezra Cleveland, Lucas Niang, Robert Hunt, and Prince Tega Wanogho are all options in round 2.
He's on the wrong side of 30
bradshaw44 : 3/24/2020 1:09 pm : link
Has an injury history and would cost too much. He would keep us from adding other needed pieces down the road with what he's looking of price wise. By the time his useful life would be up we would probably just be ready to compete and then we are back to square one looking for a LT.

If we were a LT away I would be all for it. But we are not.
‘Skins ain’t trading Trent Williams to the Giants PERIOD
90.Cal : 3/24/2020 2:29 pm : link
Now if they cut him...
Would not touch that.
Giant John : 3/24/2020 3:06 pm : link
Get a player you can develop and play for next 10 years.

This. Though if Reese were still around drafting the Marvin Austin’s I get the sentiment as he would most likely pass on The next Anthony Munoz for this years Mike Mamula but still no f’in way
'fella' are you crazy
Dave : 3/24/2020 3:41 pm : link
a high draft pick and big $ for a stop gap, ah, no
he wants 20 mill (to stay in Wash)
Rory : 3/24/2020 10:43 pm : link
which is not happening. Not sure other teams can afford that anyways

But if he gets cut, he could be an intriguing signing, other then a few bone bruises early in his career he's been healthy.

Could really solidity the oline and allow the Giants to either trade back or take Simmons.

Marty866b : 3/24/2020 10:46 pm : link
Maybe he's tired of losing? If true, he doesn't want to come to the Giants.
Williams
stretch234 : 3/25/2020 5:29 am : link
While a really good player when healthy, you don’t trade for a 32 old player who then needs a contract. Plus

Hasn’t played 16 games since 2013
Hasn’t played 15 games since 2014
Hasn’t played 14 games since 2015

He is hurt every year

If he is cut, that is entirely different scenario
I wouldn't touch him ...
