NFT: Who is still going to work?

Gary from The East End : Admin : 3/24/2020 12:21 pm
How many other "essential personnel" are hanging out on BBI between shifts?

I'm still covering my shifts at the lab, despite the fact that were in a "min safe" configuration with pretty much everyone working from home.

We're running the entire accelerator for one experiment which is, as you might expect, related to COVID-19. Normally we have dozens of experiments going on at the same time.

Even if we shut down the accelerator, I'm still going in to work because we need to keep an eye on things and monitor systems.

So, what are you guys up to?

Super busy, tons of conference calls/ video conferences. I suspect the to-do list will be exhausted in a week or so. But I thought so last week and we're still busy a week later, who knows.

I have is now that everyone is working from home, a lot of people request we turn video on.

So, now I have to wear pants and make sure I'm presentable.

We’re obviously more important to society than “nons”.

There will be no living with us after this is over.

Our office is closed because the VA administration building where it is located is closed.

Everyone is working from home and just asking someone to pickup the office mail from the post office gets people angry enough to committed murder.

I’m pulling what’s left of my hair out because my 10 yr old son wants to take the short road through his school work and my wife has early onset Alzheimer’s.

I'm mostly a hermit anyway, other than volunteering at a local off broadway theater house, which is now shutdown for the virus. Live out in the country, so have no problem social distancing when outside.
The lab I retired from (semi-conductor/MEMs research) is still open, though, being deemed essential. Don't know how they managed to come up with that designation. The nature of research is that results are years in the making. Nothing that demands staying on for a couple weeks while the world is trying to save itself.
Been working from home for 25 years

fortunate enough to still be working during these rough times as I work for a lab, so yes, we are essential. Would I mind being quarantined? Not at all but I also like money. Stay safe out there BBI.
I manage a DevOps team.

We were work from home 60% of the time before, now 100%. Biggest change for me is having teenagers stomping around the house bored off their asses.
