I know it’s from September of last year, but this brought a smile to my face. Robbie Robertson and a group of international musicians perform “The Weight.”
Enjoy. The Weight - ( New Window )
Yes, RR was the primary writer of so, so many songs that are dear to me that still hold up and that I still play with my friends more than 50 years later. But he was only one of five extraordinary musicians and singers that formed my favorite American band. Remember, it was a band, and that’s why they were called that.
From what I have gleaned from Levon’s book and seeing how he monopolized the screen time in the Last Waltz, I don’t have a very high opinion of him personally. That’s why I chose not to see the recent RR documentary about The Band - because I read and heard he once again makes it all about himself and suggests that the others were much more heavily into drugs than he was and that’s why he broke up The Band. But from other accounts he was no saint and shouldn’t be casting stones.
RIP Levon, Rick and Richard and I hope you’re still playing your sax, piano and otherworldly organ somewhere out there Garth.

Here, here!
I’m such a huge Band fan, was incredibly fortunate to meet and chat with Levon a couple of years before he passed. It was before he played a set on a rainy Tuesday (I think) afternoon in Central Park. He could not have been more humble and approachable. Most of those guys, all just wanted to play great music, nothing more...

Also Hear, hear :)
RR has that one little glimmer of honor, if, and only if
he really broke up the band out of concern that they'd likely all get jailed, or killed, by their 'lifestyle'
however, stealing all the song righting credits, and $$, was what made it even worse. he had money to retire on, the others didn't, so when he called it quits it left the others desperate.

I needed that, thanks
And eff him for breaking up my fav band
