For those of you who are either quarantined or (like me) gymless, how are you coping? What exercises or exercise routines have you taken up?
I'm finally giving P90X

a shot. It's a bit dated, but the workout itself is still very good and pretty challenging. I have dumb bells and resistance bands, which is really all you need.

My girlfriend loves the Peleton app. They're doing a 90 day free trial right now and it's loaded with HIIT workouts, cardio, yoga and NO, you DO NOT need a bike for the workouts. They're just the regular workout videos.
Not an answer you’re looking for

But my sister lives in town and has an elliptical. I’ve been heading over there every morning and doing about 80 minutes on it.

She’s been home bound since before the mandate, as have I, so not worried about passing anything between us.
Dumbbells and Cardio

Luckily, I have a set of adjustable dumbbells, a bench and a stationary bike. But the workouts are nowhere near as good as being in the gym, not even close. Miss the energy of the gym, not to mention all the equipment. But it is what it is....happy that I at least have the stuff that I do have to work out.
the Peloton floor / bodyweight
bigbluehoya : 3/26/2020 11:09 am : link
workouts I have been doing have had a series of different lunges that absolutely lit my legs on fire for a few days. I'm not in outstanding shape but I do Peloton spin classes at least 3-4 days per week, so it's not like my legs were a zero going in.

squats with some different modifications as far as position holds, pulsing have been good.

Some different bodyweight planks and etc.

Been trying to increase focus on stretching and flexibility as well, as I have lower back trouble generally and am just a highly unflexible person.

I have a feeling I'll be pulling the trigger on some adjustable dumbbells in the coming weeks. Been wanting them forever, but I can justify them now more than ever.
i've been a home-workout'er for about 7 years

I mainly do cardio and bodyweight HIIT style exercises Here is a few tips that have worked out for me
- exercise in the mornings, get it out of the way otherwise it's just another thing around the house that you will have to do
- change up your workouts frequently and find what works for you
- i caved a few years ago and bought a treadmill that I'm on 2-3x per week. a combination of long runs and the other days I'll do 1 min walk, 1 min jog, 2 mins run (about 10 rounds of that)
- a jump rope is the most underrated pieces of workout equipment of all time. heck even jumping jacks are great exercises
- check out fitnessblender - i used to use that site a ton but have slowed down recently now that I found exercises that work, but i'm sure its still a great website. beachbody is also a great resource but sometimes i find the trainers too 'rah-rah'
- find the early 90s video of 8min abs on youtube - give it a try - do it 2 times in a row if you find it easy
- a television in the workout room is a blessing and a curse
the weather has been weird
UConn4523 : 3/26/2020 11:19 am : link
and i'm by the water so its been forcing me to alternate a bit but I'm trying to get in atleast 45 minutes of cardio per day. Either doing a 4 mile brisk walk when its cold or do a 3-4 mile jog when its nice. All throw in a 3-4 mile bike ride too if it isn't too cold.

Trying to do it 7 days a week but its about 5 days currently.
I've been a home workout guy (when the weather's bad) for 25 years
markky : 3/26/2020 11:24 am : link
so no change for me. 22 miles on bike simulator (Tacx Neo), 1.5 miles on the treadmill, a little light weight lifting, stretching daily.
a lot of running right now and just ordered a peleton

also dug an old kettlebell, pullup bar, and weight vest out of the closet, trying to mix in at least 2 strength days a week.

trying to get at least 1 short burst (10-20 minutes) of high intensity (cherry picking some crossfit workouts that work well with the equipment I have) and also trying to focus on 1 strength endurance workout. Not sure if anyone is familiar with the "death by" workouts, but it's basically picking 1 movement and seeing how many reps you can ladder up to in a minute. So minute 1 is 1 rep, minute 2 is 2, 3 is 3, etc. until you can't do any more. That's a quick and easy way to get to failure and you can do it with anything. Pushups, pullups, burpees, sit ups, kettlebell swings, etc.

Equipment question - does anyone have a good (and non-invasive to set up) pullup bar they recommend? My pullup bar is one of those old ones that hooks on the door frame and doesn't really work well in my house.

Also if anyone has a good band system they recommend or TRX type thing - I know there are a million of them out there at this point. I saw one that you can set up to provide resistance on a deadlift type move and also a squat - those would be 2 things i'd like to figure out during this quarantine.

I have converted my garage into a free weight area
Larry from WV : 3/26/2020 11:45 am : link
Which has helped some but isn't the same as the gym. I've also ramped up my running mileage. I'm doing 5 miles every other day. Once it gets a little warmer I'll add biking to the mix and try to get some 30 mile rides in. My next purchase will likely be heavy bag in the garage. That assume my running shoes hold up until this is over.

...got a Peloton about a month ago. I've used it a number of times and from a cardio/lower body perspective (especially some of the power HIIT routines) I've found it useful. But for the love of god that has to be the most uncomfortable bike seat I've ever been on. We even have the additional gel pad and I still have bruising on my tailbone. Also, the cutting off and return of circulation to the genital area 30 minutes later is.......something? I'm going to have to order shows so I can mix in standing if I'm going to use it anymore.

I'm also a big fan of slam balls. Even just when I'm lying around watching TV with the kids at night I'll grab one and pass from hand to hand doing flys or play catch with myself.

HIIT training with strength training between intervals. I typically do my HIIT intervals on a treadmill at the gym, but I'm not crazy about our treadmill, so I'm doing hard 1/4 milers on the street.

LOL agreed, but as he says, the muscles have to go full fatigue. Don't waste your time doing it otherwise.

It’s getting nice enough to run outside most days. I already have some dumbbells, body bar, agility ladder and weighted vest. Once my gyms closed....I also ordered some agility hurdles, a kettlebell and a sandbag so that I can at least get some strength and conditioning work in. Also subscribed to brute force trainings free 30 day Bodyweight workouts. The other day I tried an at home orange theory workout on YouTube. I miss the gym dearly (it’s my life) but I will make the best of it.

My wife bought The Mirror and she’s doing classes on that. I’m going to start taking some too.

Bowflex adjustable dumbbells, adjustable kettle ball and bench
Elliptical, cheap ass stationary bike and uppercut heavy bag
Thank god bought g7 and elliptical late February and got delivered right b4 shutdown
Bought an easy curl bar and a few cable attachments ( triceps and biceps)
Besides legs which I barely can do because of hip, I am 80% of what a gym has to offer. Might start selling membership time
Giantsfan, my wife absolutely loves The Mirror.

Costly, but not as much as Peloton.
You can take 100’s of recorded classes or take live interactive classes. It’s pretty cool.
I've been doing lots of pushups, situps

and riding the exercise bike in the basement. I used to have a home gym in the basement, but I gave it up when I converted the room into a man cave back in 2007. I kept all of my free weights and packed them away in the garage. Since I have no idea how long my gym will be closed, I ordered a foldable flat weight bench on Amazon for $115 (they were going fast). UPS is supposed to deliver it today. I'm going to get some of my dumbbells out of the garage and start doing some weight training again. It's not exactly gym-quality workout, but it will have to do.
Dune, I've been following the "recommended routine" of body-weight

in my basement. crunches, leg lifts, push ups, pull ups (using my daughters ballet barre) dumbells, then run in place and jumping jacks for 10 mins befroe I walk to the train station. Roughly a mile.

Since i'm not commuting now, I do the run in place and jumping jacks for 20 mins. And i get up at 5 instead of 4.
