i dont see any sporting event coming back, fans or no fans until new york starts to grt back to normal...De blasio has already said he wont let anything start for 9 months
I've always said that the NBA should have its season during the spring
and summer. Basketball is a warm weather sport. I don't know why it's played in the fall and winter.
because they dont want to compete with baseball
Which is bullshit. They could beat baseball in the ratings. I get that hockey is the less popular sport, but the NBA doesn't stand a chance against the NFL.

because they don't pay outside and from a scheduling standpoint it won't effect the sports that do (as much).
I bet you there will be some sort of outdoors game planned in the coming years ala the Stadium Series in hockey.
Regardless, the NBA season should be in the spring and summer. The only issue that I really see is the overlap between the college basketball season and the professional basketball season. When would the Draft be? Kids would essentially be going right from March Madness to the NBA without much time to rest.
most of the country doesn't follow hockey and most NFL games are over by New Years.
I don't follow the NBA much anymore but they would likely lose money and ratings moving to the summer when people are spending more time outside. Doesn't make much sense to me.
RE: RE: I don't know how everyone can set these dates
Seriously. All these people pulling dates out of their asses, whether it's Easter or June 1 or whatever, are wasting peoples time...
England is doing widespread antibody testing that will give us a much better picture of what our response should be moving forward. Once we know the numbers of who had it, the numbers of people getting tested for currently having COVID will have a lot more context.
Will be interesting to see how things work out with BB & Hockey
If they end up cancelling the season, do players lose out on money? I'm assuming ESPN and other sports networks aren't paying NBA/NHL since there is no product to televise.
I assume that owners and players will take a significant hit.
Baseball can be added to the list as well.
I don't think anyone can even think about restarting anything
Until we have determined the country has peaked out in terms of infections and is on the downturn. Until that happens how can anyone project a date? I've seen some health experts project when they think that peak will happen, but it's just a projection. Who knows when it really will.

The MLB CBA has a clause which potentially would keep the players from receiving their pay. The PA said at this time there has been zero indication of this clause even being discussed.

It would help level the free agent playing field, too - spending winters in the deep freeze isn't all that appealing. Knicks would still strike out though.
the winter sucks and people are largely indoors. Why remove a huge component of what makes the winter months bearable (and take away a good indoor activity for those who can afford to go)?
Unless a miracle happens, how could you possibly pack 20,000 people into MSG in June? I'm sure social distancing will be relaxed at that point- but no shot they would be doing that.
I think the season is completely done. I'd selfishly love for them to find a solution to play without fans just to be able to watch on TV, but I don't see how thats possible.
Freakin egomaniac that can't stand that he has no control over this
That they are so determined to one day finish this season that this could radically change the NBA schedule forever. The speculation was if they finish the season in September they will start the next season Christmas day and this will become the new thing for the NBA going forward. A Christmas Day-August NBA season with the All-Star game in the spring and the offseason being September-November and training camp/exhibition games beginning after Thanksgiving.
There supposedly has been some who have been in favor of something like this for some time and this is being seen as the possible justification to move to this kind of schedule.
Could be, but highly highly unlikely, even without fans.
The players are going to have to be tested constantly and will have to do self-quarantine in between games. The travel is a problem: How do you prevent exposure in airports, on planes, etc. Hotels, same. Buses to and from games. The arena.
I just don't see the players consenting to the travel and interaction with other people until the risk is minimal. That's not happening in June.
Happy to hear an optimistic projection. This dam situation is made worse by the negative tone surrounding much of the rhetoric, at least in my opinion.
I grew up in Rochester, and basketball was perfect for a winter sport, because you could play it in a gym, didn't need to be outside. Football, baseball, soccer, cross-country, field hockey, all needed to be outside. Didn't work when there was 3 feet of snow on the ground.
I get playing in parks and playgrounds and driveways when the weather was warm, but organized ball has pretty much been an indoor game and that made it a winter sport where I came from. Like swimming (!), ice hockey, volleyball, gymnastics and wrestling.
