I was told by Austin Johnson Sr., that his son Austin Jr. (Tenn Titans) player is joining the GIANTS. He went to St. Augustine Prep in South Jersey, played at Penn St. I was at his draft party a few years ago. Just wanted to pass that along to the corner forum.

"He's a natural fit for a 3-4 base defense team, which is what Tennessee is. He has power and movement skills. When his pad level is low, he is an explosive football player. This is a big, powerful dude." -- Mike Mayock

“Quiet on both fronts, to this point on two unrestricted free agents that the Titans let hit the market. Johnson felt like a long-shot to return but may be worth a flier on a one-year deal if the price is right. After the Casey trade, Tennessee’s defensive linemen are Da’Quan Jones, Jefferey Simmons, Matt Dickerson and Isaiah Mack. Johnson may be worth it just to have another body in the mix.
Bates’ garners legitimate respect from both the locker room and his coaching staff as a special teams captain and hype man. Unfortunately, the presence of sixth-round pick David Long, Jr. and the cost effectiveness of another draft pick likely see Bates as the odd man out.”

“He was one of the first guys we reached out to,” Jones said of Johnson. “Knowing his wife and our wives are close and we know that’s rough. I’m just happy he’s safe; they weren’t at home at the time, so that was great news. But I know we’ve offered him places to stay, showed him places he can rent, but we just want to be there for him because I know it’s tough. … When you come home and don’t have a place to go and all your valuables are in there, we wanted to make sure we’ve got something on his roof so he didn’t lose his valuables that were in there.”

Yep. Coach Chaos coached him at Penn State
Hey, maybe a change of scenary and coaching could bring something out of him and give us a nice, young, experienced DT to either put in the rotation or keep as depth.
Either trading someone like Tomlinson or moving on from someone like Tomlinson next year?
Makes sense
Either trading someone like Tomlinson or moving on from someone like Tomlinson next year?
why would they get rid of Tomlinson? -- Tomlinson is a very good player and still under his rookie contract which is very team favorable.
Spot on ... he would have played 2 years, 2014-15, his soph & JR seasons under Coach Chaos ... right now, he’s competition against Slayton for the 6th DL slot.

I don't think they would trade Tomlinson, nor should they. But they may not be able to resign him next year when he is a FA, especially if they sign Williams to a long term deal. Slayton and Johnson are low cost attempts to try and find his potential replacement.
Sounds like a solid pickup, a little under the radar but one that could pay dividends.

I sure as heck don't want to unload Tomlinson. I was just wondering why we would sign a DT and speculated it's the first of a pair of orchestrated moves. Maybe it's Williams? Who knows? Just throwing out a theory.
When he was in high school in New Jersey, he was also an outstanding All Conference basketball player. Pretty impressive athlete at 6'4" and over 300 pounds.
He has a Twitter account. It is AJohn15.
If anyone knows how to post a picture on BBI, his picture shows him and his wife Danika each wearing a Coach Chaos T Shirt.
I really like this signing.

The Giants are signing DT Austin Johnson, per source. A second-round pick in 2016, Johnson spent the past four seasons with the Titans (13 starts). NJ native's position coach at Penn State: New Giants DL coach Sean Spencer.
Agreed.

Good post, Austin Johnson may be a cheaper option if Tomlinson's contract demands exceed the Giants offer.
I think they keep both. Hill's roster spot is safe it's McIntosh that has to worry if the Giants plan to keep only 5 DL. I think they decide to keep 6 this year with the extra two roster spots.

Ah, right, I forgot about McIntosh.... but can you blame me?
Not really though. Johnson is more of a NT and Casey played 3-tech for them. Johnson has been backing up DaQuan Jones for the past two years.
We can use some of the later picks on potential (Wr's) so fill as much depth/comp. as possible with players showing they belong on a roster.

Acid Test — you said this a lot better than I ever could! Thank you!
