Not much, good size, plays NT with good power. Take a swing on a young inexpensive prospect and hope he's about to take off and be a good pro. He should be able to unseat Slayton.
Good depth competition on that DL is key

McIntosh/Slayton/Hill all battling for position is a good thing.

So agree! Competition is a good thing. At worst, he is a training camp body though not eligible for PS.
Youtube video on link says he had 6.5 sacks
gmenrule-va : 3/26/2020 5:57 pm : link
in his senior year at Penn State under Sean Spencer. As we know all to well, depth is a good thing.
I spoke with my friend who is a hardcore Titans fan (yes, they exist).

He said Johnson is not good. Just fwiw. Doesn't look like the signing can really hurt.

Possible precursor to a thomlinson trade? I’m probably thinking too much and Dalvin indeed kicked ass last season.... but you never know with DG.

Possible but unlikely. It's like thinking that if the Yankees acquire a 27-year-old AAA outfielder, they could trade one of their starters. It's not like you could plug this guy in and replace Tomlinson. They're miles apart in performance.

I think it's more indicative that when the Giants are drafting developmental guys in the 6th and 7th, they aren't looking to draft interior D-linemen. They've pretty much got their bottom-of-the-roster DTs and nose tackles. I would think they're going to be looking for developmental interior O-linemen. IIRC that's what Big George was supposed to be before he got concussed. If they can find depth for guard and/or center in the 7th, that works for me.
all for 3 olinemen drafted
Payasdaddy : 3/26/2020 8:07 pm : link
even if two are from the 4-7 rds
Pretty much a must 1 has to be in first two rounds (OT)
i'm hesitant to pass judgement but
GiantsFan84 : 3/26/2020 8:50 pm : link
does this team scout any players that haven't previously been coached by these guys? literally it seems like every player signed for defense was previously coached by the DC or the DL coach or ST with Judge. These coaches have not proven anything that should make the team take their advice on who to sign. The team tried this with Betcher and it was a disaster and I can't help but wonder if they are once again repeating their mistakes.

I know Parcells would bring his own guys with him wherever he went. But he was Bill Parcells. These coaches are not. And I can't help but wonder that we are passing up better players for familiarity.

Every coach does this.
relax...
SaquontheDon : 3/26/2020 9:00 pm : link
If he's a depth guy than it looks good. All the newly assembled coaches are putting in their 2 cents and vouching for guys they've previously coached, very common. Just have another solid draft and hopefully we start to trend in the right direction.
I thought

He was a 2nd round draft choice, unless I am dreaming that, 2016, must have some talent.

After three years in the NFL, it's pretty clear that kind of player he is, and he hasn't done much, but if the coaches have an idea of what to do with him, great.
Obviously Judge is asking his assistants and coaches
TMS : 3/26/2020 11:13 pm : link
about players they are familiar with and evaluating thier worth with film study and research. All for it if it works. He will lose his job if it does not. So you know he is all in. Same way he picked his Staff. It was said he is a workaholic, very smart and loves the game. Exciting stuff we will see when the real bullets start flying.
Interesting Signing
OntheRoad : 3/27/2020 9:04 am : link
Still not sure how the coaches will handle a defense with half defensive backs and half defensive tackles.

“A.J. is a true student of the game with a really high level of intelligence football-wise,” Spencer, who coached at Penn State from 2014-19, said when Johnson was drafted. “He is a freak athlete. The combination of being 6-4, 315 pounds, moves like a cat with tremendous power at the point of attack and an unbelievable ability to make moves in short quarters makes me believe that his next step is going to be tremendous. He is going to be a great pro.”
