The Giants are signing DT Austin Johnson, per source. A second-round pick in 2016, Johnson spent the past four seasons with the Titans (13 starts). NJ native's position coach at Penn State: New Giants DL coach Sean Spencer.

Current DL coach was with him at Penn State.

Not much, good size, plays NT with good power. Take a swing on a young inexpensive prospect and hope he's about to take off and be a good pro. He should be able to unseat Slayton.

Possible precursor to a thomlinson trade? I’m probably thinking too much and Dalvin indeed kicked ass last season.... but you never know with DG.

I think it's more indicative that when the Giants are drafting developmental guys in the 6th and 7th, they aren't looking to draft interior D-linemen. They've pretty much got their bottom-of-the-roster DTs and nose tackles. I would think they're going to be looking for developmental interior O-linemen. IIRC that's what Big George was supposed to be before he got concussed. If they can find depth for guard and/or center in the 7th, that works for me.
Pretty much a must 1 has to be in first two rounds (OT)
I know Parcells would bring his own guys with him wherever he went. But he was Bill Parcells. These coaches are not. And I can't help but wonder that we are passing up better players for familiarity.

Every coach does this.

Possible but unlikely. It's like thinking that if the Yankees acquire a 27-year-old AAA outfielder, they could trade one of their starters. It's not like you could plug this guy in and replace Tomlinson. They're miles apart in performance.
