I hate to say that there are positives to the terrible pandemic, but it's true that teleconference meetings, either by Zoom or Microsoft Teams, are just so much better than meeting in person.
I can just sit in my chair. I don't have to go anywhere and find a free conference room. I can even check e-mail or do work on my second screen.
I hope we can keep them, even when it's OK to be within six feet of people again
The ability to actually accomplish something while attending virtual meetings boosts my productivity. Plus people can't see the faces I make when they say something idiotic.
It’s per meeting, not per day. Paid plans with no limit are available also, and are pretty reasonable.

All that said, it is pretty easy to use and I like it much better than Microsoft Teams.
I was on a call today and they waived it. I got a pop up at about 35 minutes telling me we keep going.
I have friends who work at Microsoft who tell me Skype is being sunset for Teams in general, so it’s not surprising it’s not holding up well.
I’ve used Zoom for years, it is THE best service. The founder/ceo Eric Yuan is a rock star. He worked at WebEx, said “this could be so much better”, then quit and founded Zoom.
Using it for meetings, as well as virtual happy hours with our couple friends has been great.
I didn't realize Zoom doesn't have passcodes though. I thought you could restrict meeting access to those people you invite though, I think.

This is pretty horrifying: A school in Norway has stopped using Zoom after a naked man "guessed" a meeting link used for a video lesson.
Security researchers said last year that guessing Zoom meeting links was pretty easy because many don't use passcodes.

RingCentral licenses zoom for their video calls/meeting technology.
She is absolutely slammed....great product
Teams is pretty sweet. We all use cameras, especially now. Company wants us video chatting with clients as well.
But after two weeks of isolation (except for my wife) I'm finding myself pretty on edge.

Teams has been my work life for over a year now. Most of us block our cameras though... lol

Yeah I agree. I love the way it integrates with Outlook. I had to give a data center tour to a big customer last Monday, due to the virus only 2 of them made it. So I joined the teams meeting with my iphone and shared my video while we walked the space, and able to point out everything while those on the call asked. Worked really well. And somehow I was steady enough to not Blair witch project it... lol
This has been coming for a long time, this just accelerated the adoption by a few years.

Agree completely. I wasn't much of a Zoom user two weeks ago and now I use it pretty much every day.
Be careful of potential security risk/exposure with Zoom though, since most of its development team is based in China. I'd be leary about the Chinese government leaning on someone there to get access.

What is ironic is that our students in China cannot access Zoom since it's blocked by the Chinese firewall.

They do have passcodes, the user or administrator has to enable it.
Seems like bad practice. Zoom meetings are easily guessable because the links to get into zoom meetings are xx.zoom.com/[9 alphanumeric codes]
now put someone whos bored at home knows a little programming or a few tools out on the web to automate a guessing game 1-9 and a-z on 9 digits and characters and they're bound to hit. It's not uncommon for businesses to not put passwords on meetings because its just convenient.

We went to Office 365 awhile back. Can now access all of these tools just from a browser, so basically any device can be used.
That said, the current situation has definitely reduced my FOMO concerns. As a fully remote employee there were definitely some "water cooler" conversations over the years that I got left out of. My company has been very good about bringing me into the loop, but I could see how that could be an issue at other companies.
