Giants Q& A with GBN's Colin Lindsay (3/26)

M.S. : 3/27/2020 7:27 am
Based on e-mails received by Great Blue Draft Report. Subjects include:

(1) Assessment of Giants Free Agent signings
(2) Who the Giants will be picking at #4*
(3) Top offensive line prospects
(4) Possibility of Giants landing OT in 2nd Round
(5) What the Giants may do at #36
(6) Shock selection at #4**

*On NFL.Com, Chad Reuter just released 4-Round Mock Draft with the Giants trading down just one spot and selecting Tristan Wirfs at #5. In return, Giants get Miami's 39th Pick and their second rounder in 2021.

**Believe me, this is indeed a shock selection! If it went down this way, BBI.com will experience record usage for a month!

The only thing shocking with that mock
ZogZerg : 3/27/2020 7:47 am : link
is the Redskins taking Tua. That's not happening.
Not a chance.

Did you see CL’s surprise pick at 4? It’s at the end of the article
I know people love Colin

But imo he seems so off base. Nothing personal to him. He does a great job but I never get anything meaningful from him.

Taking a slot WR with the #4 pick in this WR rich class might not be a smart move.
That shock pick is lunacy
cosmicj : 3/27/2020 8:20 am : link
It’s Jefferson, the LSU WR, to spoil it.

In general, I don’t think this. is one of Colins better pieces. Didn’t learn a lot.

Last I checked, Marc Ross was no longer in charge of the draft
Giants have to some how come out with a starting OL
DavidinBMNY : 3/27/2020 9:30 am : link
With an early pick. I really, really like the idea of Ruiz. A lot. They need a power player in the middle. This is where a trade down could align value with need. My dream scenario is a trade down with the Raiders, take Ruiz at 19 and Murray the LB at 19. I doubt the raiders would do this deal but positional value is high.
Colin's humorous way
JonC : 3/27/2020 10:03 am : link
of saying he doesn't know who the Giants will pick, and he's right about the OT options being less than hoped for at #4, imo.
Reads like Colin isn’t a fan of this OT class
The_Boss : 3/27/2020 10:14 am : link
And taking one at 4 would appear to be a reach given there’ll likely be better players available like Okudah. Simmons, Brown, and (my opinion) maybe 2 of the WR’s.
I think this class is as good as any.
barens : 3/27/2020 10:45 am : link
Honestly, when was the last time someone said "this is going to be a strong OT class." I think it's a position with impossibly high expectations, and with the way teams are passing so much today, this is going to be said every year.
There's just not a no brainer OT there, imo
JonC : 3/27/2020 10:50 am : link
I like Wirfs a great deal, and would even be willing to get behind Thomas if they have a strong conviction his issues can be coached up. But, at #4 it's a harder sell. I know guys here really like Wills and Becton, but not at #4 for me.
JonC, I hear you, but if things don't break the way
barens : 3/27/2020 10:58 am : link
they want, and they can't trade back, I'd still be fine if they selected on OT. They may or may not be worthy of that pick, but I can get excited about it.

If there is no trade down opportunities presented to Dave, there is no doubt in my mind he’s gonna reach for the best OT on his board with better players available. And in the days go follow, if not immediately after the selection, he will ridiculed. Even here on bbi. You can take it to the bank. Hell, I’ll probably be roasting him.

This is the truest statement on BBI.

Whether somebody think we need to select any OT or a specific OT, or Okudah or Simmons, there will be a roasting of Gettleman.

I want Simmons. Many think OT is more pressing a need which I have a hard time arguing.

The only thing that can lessen the angst against DG is Simmons is selected by Detroit at 3, we trade back with Miami and pick up a late 1st or early 2nd we then select an OT, and he might come out looking like a genius.
an offensive tackle at the #4 pick
jeffusedtobeonwebtv : 3/27/2020 11:34 am : link
Are the same people who are saying none of the offensive tackles are worth a #4 pick, the same ones who said after last year's draft that Daniel Jones was not worth a #6 pick?
OT

gotta protect the future. Can’t have Barkley who was taken 2 get banged up to the point of being a 28 year old NFL type of 33 year old. We need Barkley to be a 28 year old 25-26 year old and so on if that makes any sense. We need Jones to not have to retire before age 30 like Luck did. I personally would go Wills/Thomas before Wirfs as I can see Wirfs becoming a Guard once Zietler contract is up. That wouldn’t be a bad thing if a sure fire good OT class comes again soon or to UFA.

I don't know much about the OT class in 2021, but there is a guy projected as a top 3-5 pick from Oregon named Penei Sewell. He's already being touted as an elite blue chip can't miss prospect. If we are as bad as I think we will be in 2020, he's the guy I'd be targeting come next April.

They would plug a huge hole at RT, but the longer view of the positional value of the pick takes a hit. It's my optimizer personality saying no.
