made it sound like a routine grab. Aikman saved him as he actually noticed how amazing it was.
In Buck’s defense, I’ve heard him in interviews in the years since talk about how it was really hard to tell in the moment that Tyree had caught it.
He cares about delivering a call with the proper tone for the moment, and kind of knows he whiffed on that one, but it was moreso due to his desire to get it right than not caring enough.
His Plax TD call was very good - including how he did what few announcers left this day and age manage to get right, he shut up after the call to let viewers listen to the crowd and take in the moment
In game 6 of the 1980 SCF. He scored to put the Islander up 4-2 at the end of the 2nd period which looked like it might be the icing on the cake for the first Stanley Cup. The line was “Bobby Nystrom may have scored the most important goal of his careee” or something to that effect.
The Flyers tied the game in the 3rd and then Nystrom scored the cup winner in overtime about an hour later.

I do recall the plax catch, when it occurred originally as that timeless moment more than the crazy play before it
