I think the Giants want to run the ball a lot more. The TEs can really block. I think they also take a OT in this draft. Likely a brute like Wirfs. Saquon will be featured for sure.
TEs have to go. You have to figure that Engram and Smith are locks. Conrad and Dickerson have been with the team and appear to be similar styles. Toilet and Tomlinson are new and primarily blockers. So, maybe one of Conrad/Dickerson and one of Toilet/Tomlinson even though 4 TEs seems to be a lot.
I'm thinking about Judge's "Don't tell me what a guy can't do" speach. Engram is clearly a poor blocker for a TE, so maybe they don't ask him to do that anymore.
Unless traded, Engram is a lock, Smith is a lock, and didn’t Toilolo sign a 2-year deal? He’s not going anywhere. Maybe they carry 4 TE’s with the idea that Engram could be a swing TE/WR, but I doubt it.
Judge may indeed move Engram from TE to WR (Z). He is a very fast, tall WR who can jump...definite mismatch. Keeping Engram at TE just guarantees he will get injured again, and makes it impossible to audible from a pass play to a run play due to his poor inline blocking. He is also a great stalk blocker...probably better than any of the Giant WRs currently IMO.
Are going to lead to a trade of Engram for a pick. My stance is 3rd or better.
The other thing they could do is just use Engram split out, although I don't think that's a good spot for him, or in the slot, which is a good spot for him, but also is Shepard's best spot and really Tate's best spot as well.
But I also like this idea of emphasis on dominating in the blocking game from the TE position.

To me, an H-Back, is just a fancy name for a TE, but I agree it would be nice to see him used more in roles traditionally attributed to H-backs.

I like how this team is being set up to be a running offense....
Jason Garrett is a big time pass happy coach, so I'm hoping that under Judge the team will shift from the air game to become a running game.
If Tomlinson can provide some good blocking, it'll be something this team hasn't had since the Shockey era.
Trying to insure they have a legit run blocking monster

Bruh stop with the trade Engram stuff, pretty sure it was already hinted T them splitting him out wide a lot more already as the X. None of these TEs have anywhere near his catch, YAC and overall receiving skills. They’re not trading him, get over it
it’s a 90 man roster and the in season roster # has been increased.
looking at depth chart, just from numbers perspective, giants set at qb, rb, and guard. Talent and # need for o tackles and center and wr.
defense looks down in numbers alone at cb and safety. d line looks # wise ok as does lb.
i do this because i can count better much better than i can judge football talent and who can guess draft choices?
But from a # perspective i doubt we take the #2 lber with the 4th choice, much more likely to be a corner or wr. ot likely further down but possible with #4. We’ll see soon enough but i wouldn’t hold my breath for young or simmons(?). WR, CB, or OT 2/3 with first two picks.
Engram was on the trading block last year, according to one of the more credible asshats. Either the Giants had no offers for him, or they didn't like the offers they got. Regardless, I doubt Tomlinson is anything more than camp fodder.
Maybe the Giants are loading up on blocking TE because the OL might niot change so they are loading up to play lots of two TE sets and they know they are going D in the first round and not OL??

That's like making sure you have a good spare, instead of replacing your worn out tires when you have the chance.

What's wrong with calling a spade a spade?
There's a reason the term 'camp fodder' exists (just like, unfortunately, the term 'cannon fodder' exists). It's an accurate description of a player like Tomlinson, who's on his seventh team in six years, and has a grand total of 17 receptions. He's expendable, not expected to last very long.
Would you prefer 'camp body?' It's nicer, less of a pejorative, shows a little more sensitivity. It doesn't change anything, though.

Joe, it’s probably the bully syndrome, it’s how the weak amongst us, even on this board get their jollies.

Disagree on EE: He is not a lock either because (hopefully) he is traded for some value, he is not healthy to see the field, or, most likely, the new staff conclude that his position is not TE

Give me a break, it is a term that is used all of the time, even among sports journalists. It's not questioning his ability or toughness, it's just a numbers game. Get over yourself.
Engram
Smith
Toilolo
Conrad
Tomlinson
Dickerson?
Where is it going?

Maybe they can teach Engram how to do it better and actually make him valuable...or more injured. :- )

BBI's most popular fantasy, trading Engram for a couple of 1st rounders?
