they are actually racing, they are driving those cars like they are actually in it, they feel every bump, tire wear evwrything..
They are not just playing a game with a controller, would be completely different
I didn't watch this because I don't watch Nascar, but some Formula 1 and Indycar drivers race using the same software Nascar did.
Unless Nascar had all the driver's together and accumulated dozens of advanced cockpit simulators, then the Nascar drivers are likely just at home playing on their computer racing simulator setup. This will consist of pedals and a force feedback steering wheel, with one to many LCD screens setup to create a large viewing space from the virtual cockpit.
So, just for additional information, both Indycar and Formula 1 are hosting similar events both officially and unofficially via eSport teams/community sites. However, they don't feel every bump and some tire wire can be felt based on how the car performs, but none of the drivers have the same inputs of real racing, which means no entire-body g-forces and no feeling through their butts, which is where a lot of driver instinct comes from (feeling the car lose traction is felt in the butt first and then driver's use their now instinctual and super fast reflexes to correct the loss of grip via oversteer events).
With some generic racing attachments. He was basically a nobody.
And I realize other sports aren't quite the same, but I think there are a lot of people that would watch a group of NBA guys play NBA 2K, or golfers competing in simulators.

most if not all had the legit cockpit simulators..
there were a couple that had their own setup who play all the time...

Timmy Hill is an accomplished iRacer and NASCAR driver. His setup was pretty basic, but that’s all he needs.
As opposed to what, poring over thousands of unremarkable posts on an NFL Team site message board? At least the gamers are attempting to do something difficult.

Well, you could get on your game system and do it yourself for one thing. Watching others play video games? JFC, are people that freaking lazy?
