Jax trade up

OC2.0 : 3/29/2020 9:54 pm
Somebody asked me on a thread yesterday why I didn't mention Jax as a partner & I didn't have time to respond.
Here it is. Imo, with the way they're tossing bodies outta of the truck, they have more holes than we do to fill.
It would be a waste of assets to trade up at all. They'll go with Minshaw for now, I think. If anything trade back if they get a call.
Thanks for the clarification

Why would the Jaguars trade up?
JoeyBigBlue : 3/29/2020 10:28 pm : link
They have a QB in Minshew
They have a young LT in Cam Robinson
They have a young edge in Josh Allen.

Stay with your picks and continue to build.

Just how good is Cam Robinson? Not trying to be a smart ass, just legitimately curious.

He’s better than any Tackle we have on the roster right now, that’s for sure.

Do they? Minshew is far from a sure thing and there have been plenty of rumors that the Jags are still in the market for a QB. Remember, Minshew was a 6th round pick so the Jags don't have the investment in him like the Giants do with Jones. If he struggles they would pull the plug on him pretty quickly.

The Jags are defintely a landing spot for Cam Newton.

That is an incredibly low benchmark of excellence. The reality is that Cam has a lot to prove this season. His rookie season was a mixed bag with a lot of bad, but chalked up to being a rookie. Sophomore season he blew out his ACL in the first game and was on IR. Last year, he missed the start of the season with knee issues but made it back by week 3 missing additional time later in the season with a toe injury. He has been good in run blocking but not sure if that is attributed to the tandem of Norwell. Fournette has his longest runs over the two of them. The pass blocking has been suspect. He isn't the sole reason why Minshew is running for his life, but there is no security from the blindside.

I don't think they will be looking to the draft for an OT to replace Cam. They selected Jawaan Taylor in last year's draft so they will hope for an improved play from Cam now that he is 2 years removed from the knee. But, he is in his last year of his rookie contract. They could look to draft his replacement instead of committing money (that they don't have) to Cam.

They like what they see in Minshew, but he has a lot to cleanup from his game. Anyone remember the meltdown in London? With the cap allocation at that position this year (they are eating a crap ton of cap from Foles), they aren't going to sign Cam. There will be no QB competition with Cam/Gardner. They might look to the draft to bring in a prospect that will compete, but won't be ordained the starter in waiting.

Jax might be interested in trading up for Okudah if he falls. They gutted their secondary trading Ramsey and Bouye. They tried to shore it up in FA with Dennard, but the deal fell through.

Hima and Ramzcyck we’re sitting there for Reese and just like wjen he passed Glenn for Wilson he it red a glaring need. The value for both guys was there easily. Robinson lost some time due to injury but if they and chosen him Solder wouldn’t be here. That Reese still as a few defenders who pop their heads up to bash art Amazes me. They are two separate issues. If DGsicksthsrs on him but He passed on two guys who were better than anyone he ever selected

Minshew as a long term answer at QB ... Marrone has done some strange things, and he could bring in either Winston or Cam, or maybe even go after Dalton, but I just can’t see them rolling the dice with what they currently have.

I don't think Marrone will have any input. It is amazing to me that Caldwell has survived the multiple transitions. He has been a trash GM for a long time, but somehow must have pictures that guarantees his survival. Khan has put both of them on notice, but I would put money that Marrone is the fall guy and Caldwell somehow survives again.

Keep in mind that they don't have the proverbial pot to piss in. They don't have too many options to cut/restructure to create space. They will need to deal Yannick soon to gain the cap space allocated for the tag. While they may insist on a 1st round pick for compensation, they may have to settle for future draft compensation and at a lesser value.

Right now, if Yannick plays on the tag and leaves next year in FA, they will at most get a 3rd round comp pick in the following year. That is the basement level of compensation that they are looking at. With the restrictions on teams and unable to conduct physicals, large ticket players will linger. Every day that the situation lingers, you have Yannick with his passive aggressive tweets keeping the spotlight on the situation and reducing the leverage that Jax has. Caldwell needs to resolve the situation while saving face.

If Okudah is on the board at #4, Jax might want to trade to address their shoddy defensive secondary while also moving Yannick and gaining the cap space. It is a 450 pt difference from #4 to #9. If they include Yannick for us to swap picks, we can address the OL and get a young stud Edge player.
Jaguars

My suspicion is that Jacksonville won't attempt to trade up, but will sit pretty at #9. I think they are entering a rebuild and would like a high draft pick next year.
If the Jags really
Dnew15 : 3/30/2020 11:19 am : link
believed that Minshew is the answer long-term at QB, there's no way that Foles would have played a game when he came back.

Then again, we're talking about one of the worst run franchises in professional sports.

I think they have to be in the market for a QB if they are serious about rebuilding, which is what they should be doing.
