By Dan Kadar, who writes:
"In addition to each team's pick in the first round, I've come up with a backup choice. The only catch is the options are only relative to what has happened in the draft. If a player was taken already, he can't be the 'other' option."
Kadar has the Giants going OT at #4, and that includes his back-up option.
From a contrarian perspective, the Giants may not go offensive tackle at #4 because NFL Draft Mockers are guilty as sin of groupthink/crowdsourcing, and their favorite selection is OT.
The other reason for not going offensive tackle: Isaiah Simmons -- a difference-maker for a defense with no difference-makers.

You aren't getting a Tackle unless you get him at four

In that scenario, maybe a pretty good Center can be had with our second round pick, or maybe WR.

Well, you would be getting more of a developmental one presumably in rd2 or further. Which could work for the Giants as well.
It would require some very good fortune such as Solder holding up another year, swing-tackle Fleming to likely start a good part or maybe the whole season before this rd 2 OT is ready. And of course, this 9th or 10th best OT actually being NFL ready.
Very good fortune.
He's not. Aaron practically had more sacks in 1 season than the dude did his entire collegiate career. A bit of an exaggeration sure but not that much . Lawrence had more sacks in one season than Brown did in any of his.
DG has not had the opportunity to trade down and still get his top choice. This time, it depends on what the Giants think about the players available when it is time to pick. Not rocket science here.
Brown is pretty damn good. He was a force in the SEC, often making plays on the opposing side of the LOS. Understand immense value of a pass rusher, but will be surprised if Brown is not an excellent DT at the next level.
You don't take that type of DT at 4 especially when you have a bunch already of similar caliber.
People saying it's "obvious" we are going OT at #4 -- I think it's more obvious we are going C w/ our second pick. Solder you almost have to play no matter what because of what you're paying him. We just got Cameron what's-his-face. Gates showed promise. And we've added not one but two blocking TEs who should help on the edges. Meantime, we have no one -- and I mean NO ONE -- at C. Again, it's "obvious" we are going OT at #4?? If the Giants are telegraphing ANYTHING,...
To me it should be Simmons at #4, best C 2nd pick, best OT/FS 3rd pick. (If we take one of the premier OTs first, I still won't throw the remote.)
"Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, the madman, loves hog mollies."
Basta!
Khallas!
Maspik!
Cox gets home Brown doesn't. This will be magnified in the pros. His combine numbers confirm the tape. He will probably be a good DT but not a great pass rushing one.
That narrative may or may not be wrong, by the way, but I think it's facile and lazy. However, those narratives are a feature of our media landscape. We can all think of them in politics, some people get tagged with a particular narrative and everything they do is seen through that lens. It also happens in sports.
Maybe someone just just get him the world's biggest stuffed panda to cuddle with and that will satisfy that obsession.

Agree with this. Based on what Giants have and the LW deal, Brown is an unlikely choice for a team with so many holes.

It does feel like 8 is too many to make the first round grade but I guess a "run on the bank" scenario could apply.
Didnt that happen years ago with Defensive Tackles and we got William Joseph?
+1
We want an elite all pro caliber player at 4, and this defense desperately needs a game changer.
We desperately need tackles too, but we should only pick one at 4 if they’re confident it’s a perennial pro bowl caliber left tackle
