Simmons, Peppers and a 3-3-5

Larry from WV : 3/30/2020 1:56 pm
Does the Giants over-sized defensive line and run oriented interior linebackers allow them to minimize some of the weaknesses typically found within the interior of a 3-3-5 while hiding some of their lack of speed at both positions? It would seem to be a base formation that would allow both Peppers and Simmons to be used at the same time. Outside of difficulty stopping inside zone runs what are the other inherent weaknesses associated with the 3-3-5? Looking for people smarter than I am, I like Simmons, but I don't think he is ideally suited as an ILB.
What about

a 3-3-5 with ZoCart and Simmons lining up wide 9?
If we are fortunate and smart enough to draft Simmon

you cannot look at being in one defense. The beauty of the player is he can play many positions. We do not need to be in a specific alignment with him.

He would allow us to run a base 3-4 with him in one of 4 positions: ILB, OLB, FS, SS.

In a 3-3-5 he would be a FS,SS, NCB or ILB. Same in a 4-2-5.

In a 4-1-6 he could be the spy MLB.

He is so versatile that he doesn't limit you. The coaching staff can't limit him either.
There’s some flaws

If Lawrence and Tomlinson were dominant pass rushers, the idea would be in strong consideration, but they’re not. You will end up blitzing a lot which can expose Martinez and Connelly on mismatches. If you don’t blitz Simmons, Carter, or peppers, then your coverage unit has to defend all day while Leonard Williams gets double teamed.

It can work, it’s just going to take some savvy.

. Agree on the thought but how good is our defensive braintrust. If BB was doing it I would be all in.
I have brought this up several times in the past few weeks. The 3

Safety look is the best way to utilize Peppers and Simmons together too.
They have similar skills, but not identical and each could be the in the box safety or the strong up safety.
