But there is a massive difference between Becton and Flowers. Flowers was considered a project because he had technique issues but his real problem was coordination and body control. He was a spaz and you can't coach that out of someone.
Becton doesn't even have bad technique, he just hasn't been asked to drop into pass sets much do to scheme. Watching Bection pull out to block on sweeps or get up inyo the 2nd level to find a LB or S it's very clear that he has no issues with balance or body control. Becton is also WAY bigger and stronger than Flowers was.

regarding the 1st round selections:
You must not take any chances whatsoever on the pick.
There should be no uncertainties or risks involved...what you see is what you get and its what you want right here and now.
When it’s all said and done Giants take Andrew Thomas he is the safest pick of the four can be the swing tackle rarely gets beat inside which is good for a college lineman or he could probably start over Solder or start at RT .....personally I would be all for it especially on a trade back
and i get comparisons to him and flowers. the comparisons would be that these guys had all the potential in the world, but have technique issues. flowers had a terrific oline coach in miami and wirfs does as well at iowa. and yet they both still have technique issues. it's not because they didn't have proper coaching. so the question i have with wirfs is does he take to coaching or will he have to be moved inside where technique won't be as much of an issue (see flowers).
becton simply hasn't been coached like a pro because he hasn't played in a pro style offense too often. comparing him to flowers is very lazy
Flowers was a reach by the Giants, everything I read prior to the Draft had Flowers going much later.
As far as his size Google "Bob Brown offensive tackle" Played in the 60s and 70s Hall of famer. Look at him and compare him to Beckton. I am sure youtube has vids on Him.
size and the fact he seems to be such an easy mover at that size intrigues me. The write ups I've read all say his work ethic is strong and that he's teachable so any technique issues should be ironed out. What makes me say no is what intrigues me: his size. Will be be able to keep his weight in check?

I don't know that he doesn't have technique issues. He bends from the waste an awful lot.

Not taking a risk is also a risk. We don't have huge embarassing holes on our roster like most people think. Every roster in the league has below average guys starting somewhere on the field. The biggest problem the Giants have is that there is only 1 game-breaking player that demands special attention. Hopefully dexter lawrence, jones, baker or slayton develop into one of those guys in year 2, but even if they do what this team needs more than anything else is pro-bowl and all-pro caliber players, regardless of where they play on the field. Another average starter on the OL is not going to be enough.
...but a lot of analysts think he better projects in the NFL as a guard. I think an OG is too early to pick at #4.
If the G Zack Martin or Quentin Nelson IMO maybe not. Martin is going to be wearing a Gold Jacket one day. Not sure Wirfs will be that good but you better be damn sure at 4 regardless of who it is
but his measurable make the boom possibility awfully tantalizing. Plus, the fact that the guy completely remade his body over a 3 year period shows that he will work hard.
I’m not saying he should be the pick, but he is not Erick Flowers.

Not sure any of us know who is going to bust or who might be a 10 yr All-Pro.

it generally means work ethic/intelligence/heart, determination etc. Things that can't be measured compared to height/weight/40 time.
To my untrained eye he looks like a guy that is going to end up inside.
I'm a novice but the more I see, the more I think Wills is the guy.
Becton scares me a little.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Sy has him rated first of the OTs

Ogden, McKinney, Trent Brown all guys 340 plus. Becton holds the weight well too. He is not a sloppy weight. He is just a gargantuan man.

Will have health issues to me he is a guard if healthy.

Yeah, at his height there are plenty of players as you mentioned that can carry that weight and play effectively without health issues.

And the physical traits are definitely good enough combined with the intangible traits: intelligence character awareness etc.

Do you have any idea what people mean when they talk about intangibles in a sports context?

Thanks, I know what it means. I was curious if the OP knew what it meant based on the quotation marks and the context.
