As noted in here, #Giants did in fact use signing bonuses for their top FAs. They quickly amended the original structure to deals for James Bradberry ($9M signing bonus, $3M roster bonus) + Blake Martinez ($6M signing, $4M roster). Provides more cap space than has been reported.

If OTC is up to date with this, then the impact isn't really any different. These are three year deals with all the commitment in the first two years.
Anyway, we can now throw all the think pieces about Gettleman's new and revolutionary approach to contracts and how he was selflessly setting up the Giants to be as flexible as possible in the future out the window.
There is no way to limit signing bonus to two years

Yeah, OTC still has them as all roster bonus, not signing bonus, I guess they're a little out of date.
If the total bonus money is the same, the long term implications are equal since they can carry over unused cap space year-to-year.
Bringing back a potential lame duck GM makes no sense.

term cap space but more long term limitations.

But if they want to cut the players there is more dead cap now

Welp, so much for the totally front-loaded approach. This reported change adds $10M more in cap space for this offseason than would have been available based on the roster bonus only structure (while increasing cap hits in 2021, 2022)

It only means anything if these two are cut. I seriously doubt either are. And if the cap jumps as has been reported, then it makes more sense.
And I agree it only matters if they're cut, but it's good to have options and flexibility.
I know coming into this off-season many fans on here felt like the Giants could do whatever they want with all this cap space. Well guess what it's pretty much gone and the Giants didn't sign any big name players (which is fine with me, but fans need to have different expectations).
Both bonuses appear to be fractional compared to the amount they used to give out in SB under Reese, and even compared to what they gave Solder a couple years ago.
