Cronin ESPN Minn: What are Vikings' options after using franchise tag on Anthony Harris?
Two weeks of free agency have come and gone without any movement. The New York Giants and Cleveland Browns were among several of the serious suitors interested in Harris, according to league sources, but he remains with the Vikings.
It's possible that the asking price is too high -- what Minnesota wants in return for a trade and the salary Harris would like on a long-term deal.

You do that for an OL or DE pretty much if anything
How did that work out for the Jints?
Safety has been a big hole for the Jints forever.
We had the #28 ranked pass defense last year and deep safety was a big reason.
Lets fix it
Draft day trade after a slight tradedown...

We shouldn't do things based on how previous failures netted out. We should make (or not make) a move for a player because of the now. Can't you just point to anything that didn't work out and say the same thing?
I'm all about upgrading anywhere possible but 2019 and earlier shouldn't factor into those decisions IMO.
But would not give up assets to trade for a good but not great safety who will turn 29 in October. Didn’t realize he was that old...his breakout came pretty late
Of course Mitch Trubisky deservedly gets much of the blame.
Solder was a different animal. The fact is, we had nowhere to turn for competence at the tackle position, much less Eli's blind side at left tackle. Solder was the guy in a very, very scarce market, and the only way we were going to get him was an overpay, so that's what they did.
And I will say this, for all the shit he takes on here, he has brought competence to the position. He has had bad games, he has had terrible moments, and everyone remembers those. But he also has had good games, which nobody seems to remember, and all of that washes out to a league average LT, which is a huge improvement over what we had with Ereck Flowers in that spot.
There are people who continue to claim that we are no better off at OL than when DG took over. This is not the case. It can and has been worse. Way worse. And it was WAY WORSE before DG overhauled that position group. That's not to say the job is done, because it's clearly not.
However, if anyone is going to try and say that the group of Solder, Hernandez, Pio, Zeitler, and Remmers (and let's not forget Gates as a swing tackle), isn't notably superior to the MASH unit we had in 2017 of Flowers, John Jerry, Richburg/Brett Jones, Pio again, Justin Pugh, and Bobby Hart, along with the other backups that were forced into action and couldn't really play like Bisnowaty and Wheeler...you have another thing coming.
This group hasn't been perfect, but it had a modicum of competence last year, and can be a lot worse. Yes, we need a Center, and we need at least one tackle and probably two for the long term replacement of Solder. Yes, DG missed on Omameh and Solder hasn't been as good as he was earlier in his career.
But I wouldn't count out Solder to not have a bounceback year this year. He'll only be 32, not ancient for OL standards, and he does know how to play the position. If he feels healthy and stays healthy, and we fix RT and C, this group could actually be a strength.
This is part of the problem as a fan of a rebuilding team. You have to give some of these young guys a chance to develop vs. giving them a rookie year and moving on to a more expensive option right away.

.
Notably superior?
Ok, I will say it. It’s not notably superior. What thing is now coming?
He has had some misses, but he has made this team younger and has gotten players that we can build around. If he hit on Daniel Jones, then just like accorsi with Eli, he will have hit on the most important piece. The one thing gettleman has done very well is not compound a bad mistake by sticking with whatever move he made. He moved on from omameh, flowers, bethea and beckham to name a few.
And yes, this offensive line is better than the one he inherited, but as mentioned it still needs work and I think we will see some more additions this year. Solder is better than flowers, Hernandez is better than john jerry, halapio is the same, zeitler is better than fluker and Bobby hart is probably better than Fleming, but not by much.

Then you're deluded and wrong.

I agree with that except both Remmerz and Fleming is better than Bobby Hart, who was a Trainwreck. Fleming is a competent if unspectacular player.
I heard he was one of four players NYG targeted heavy. -Martinez, Harris, Looney, Bradberry
They also made an attempt at Jeff Heath before Ebner.

In regards to the offensive line. Those are my sentiments exactly. People seem to forget just how bad the offensive line was before gettleman took over. Heck, they forget just how bad the team was as a whole. Gettleman has had 2 seasons (he is now in his 3rd season) to build this team from the bottom up.

As for OL, my prayer is that OL Gates really develops and challenges at a few spots! If we trade down from #4 then an OL makes sense cause it is the weakest link on this team right now followed by ER (assuming we sign Golden as I believe we will when it is all said and done) and FS unless Love proves otherwise.
