Let's assume Giants go with an OT in round 1, who are some of the favorites around here for pick #36
Personally, I love Zach Baun at Wisconsin- he's impressive. Plays fast, versatile, can rush off the edge and cover the flat. Made several impact plays and was the best player on a very good Wisconsin defense. Giants have shown a ton of interest, only worry is if he makes it to 36. I'd definitely consider trading up into the end of round 1 to secure him.
Also on my list-
S Grant Delpit, Antoine Winfield, Xavier McKinney. Giants definitely need some more options at FS. Explored the market for Anthony Harris so we know it's an option. Pretty good chance 1 of these guys is available at 36.
C Cesar Ruiz. Double dip on the OL and lay the groundwork for a very strong unit between the Round 1 pick, Hernandez, Zeitler and Gates. Ruiz moves well, is physical, and would be an immediate starter.
EDGE- Terrell Lewis, Julian Okwara. Both great athletic talents and would likely be first rounders without injury concerns. Prefer Bauns film over both, but think theres a very good chance these guys can be had at 36.
OL: Matt Hennessy, Ezra Cleveland, Isiah Wilson, Cesar Ruiz
DL: Gross-Matos
LB: Baun
S: Dugger
.....which is why a trade down is vital.
It seems like every year a WR from outside the 1st round winds up as one of the best WR's from the draft like a Michael Thomas or DK Metcalf.
Love Pittman's size and speed combo (though not blazing stretch the field speed) should make him an instant target.
C Cesar Ruiz
LB Zack Baun
FS Antoine Winfield Jr.
OLB Terrell Lewis
My ideal draft would have the Giants trading down to 6 with the Chargers acquiring their 2nd and 4th plus a 2021 2nd. Then the Giants draft is:
1st - LB Isaiah Simmons Clemson
2nd - OLB Zack Baun Wisconsin
2nd - OT Isaiah Wilson Georgia
3rd - C Nick Harris Washington
4th - OT Ben Bartch St. John's
4th - DE/OLB Trevis Gipson Tulsa
5th - OT Alex Taylor South Carolina
6th - WR Isaiah Coulter Rhode Island
7th - QB Kelly Bryant Missouri
7th - TE Stephen Sullivan LSU
I know that I am missing two 7th's but I think the Giants will end up trading a couple to move up on day 3.
I know some will laugh at the idea of drafting three OT's but if we can land Bartch and Taylor on day 3 then that would be a great gamble for the Giants. Both are raw but excellent athlete's who have the talent to start at LT in the NFL. Bartch might go earlier but if not he is a good fit for the Giants. Bartch and Taylor could spend the year developing behind Solder and in a year one of them may be able to step into the starting lineup.
Isaiah Wilson would step in day one at RT solidifying the right side of the OL.
Okwara, Matos, or maybe even Espensa are all intriguing if they are there. If McKinney or Delpit fall, gotta think about it. Maybe even Ashtyn Davis too.
And there's going to be a round 1 caliber WR available, whether it's a Justin Jefferson or Brandon Aikyuk. You'd have to really love the player to go WR there but I don't think that's impossible.
Of the realistic guys I think Cesar Ruiz could fall in the 36 range and plug an immediate need. Love that he’s versatile and could plug several holes inside. Tyler Biadasz should be there and the tape pre hip is first rd all day but between that and the shoulder scope he’s a big gamble. If his medicals check out this is a plug and play starter day one.
I like Hennessy and Cleveland but think they fit better in a zone blocking scheme where they can use their athleticism and movement ability rather than a power based scheme where they’ll get pushed around. Also don’t think Cleveland makes it out of rd 1. Feel like Garrett/Colombo are shifting the team focus towards a more heavy power based running game (signing Cameron Fleming is a clue) and to do that you need more big heavy handed bulls like Hernandez. I think Isaiah Wilson fits the bill on the right side and he’ll be there in the second. He could push Cameron Fleming right away.
It seems stupid to go after a wide receiver early when there are glaring deficits at Center, Edge, and Tackle but if there ever were a historically good class to do it this would be the one. Jones could use another playmaker on the outside and Denzel Mims, Laviska Shenault, or possibly even Tee Higgins could still be around in the second. Any of them are capable of carving out a big role right away. Chase Claypool could make Evan Engram an expendable trade chip as a big bodied possession receiver or a move tight end.
He doesn’t move that well. He also has poor technique and lunges a ton. He will move to guard. He is not a center. To me the best true guard is Logan stenberg.
My favorites are Baun, Diggs, Winfield. I would say Matt Hennessy but I think 36 may be too early and a bit of a reach. Outside shot Kenneth Murray is there as well. Also WRs will be plentiful at 36. Low key big fan of Jonathan greenard. If his Medical’s check out this kid knows how to rush the passer
OL: Cesar Ruiz, Matt Hennessy, Ezra Cleveland, Cushenberry, Wilson (if Austin or Josh Jones inexplicably drop)
DL: Gross-Matos
LB: Baun,Ushe,Murray
S: Dugger,Winfield,McKinney , Delpit (as a CF FS)
