I never do mock drafts. I usually dont know enough about players past around round 3 to do a good one. I found the ProfootballNetwork Mock Draft that allows you to do trades and its free so I gave it a whirl.. Tell me what you think...
I made a trade with Miami to move up one spot. I tried to get more out of them but all I could manage was a #3 which was 70 overall. That gave the Giants 4 picks out of the top 100 players. I tried to go with the best player available that also addressed a need in most cases. In that later rounds I took some fliers on players Ive seen others talk about or mentioned.. I probably took one to many receiver later in the draft, but I was thinking if one shines maybe Tate gets released...
Anyway here goes
Round 1- Isaiah Simmons-Defense (ha ha) Clemson
Round 2- Yetur Gross-Matos DE Penn State
Round 3a-Isaiah Wilson-OT Georgia
Round 3b-Chase Claypool WR Notre Dame
Round 4- Nick Harris C- Washington
Round 5-Saddiq Charles OT- LSU (going for competition and depth was surprised he was still there)
Round 6- JR Reed- S Georgia- Picked him on Sy56 recommendation from Safety Class review
Round 7- Isaiah Coulter-WR- Rhode Island ( I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the Giants talked to him and Joe Judge showed some interest
Round 7 - Derrek Tuszka DE-NDST- seen a few clips here and there.. could help on Special Teams
Round 7 - Juwan Johnson-WR Oregon- This is the one pick I just couldnt decide. Big 6'4" 230 WR.. 4.58 aint bad for someone his size. His three cone was 2nd among receivers at the combine.. Its the 7th round.. what the hell... why not..
Round 7 - James Smith-Williams- DE NC State.. Practice Squad candidate.. good DE size..
I will say this.. I would not want this job.. once you get to end of round 3 round 4.. I dont know enough. NFL GM is not a job I would want...
I can. I can see them going to build the defense this year. I can also see them going total offense. I'm not sure that they try to balance the rebuild and try to build both sides of the ball together.
I'm beginning to think that since DG missed Josh Allen last year, he goes after Simmons this year since he can attack from anywhere. He can also cover TEs and RBs, one of the biggest failings of the Giants defense for years.
I'm as torn as anyone between OT and Simmons. And I can see it going either way. The big thing is nobody really knows what Judge is thinking. We kind of know what DG thinks(hog mollies and run the ball). But Judge is the unknown. He did preach versatility. Simmons is that kind of player. I also think they will let the draft come to them. There are so many holes that I think that after the 1st pick they just go BPA.

cannot see our first two picks going defense...one of those has to be OL. To be honest, i expect 2 of first 3 to be OL

Listening to BBK yesterday they had two draft guys from NFL Network on.
I was walking and too lazy to go back and look up names, who while stating they believed any of the four tackles would be a good pick at 4, they liked Thomas the best; they liked a few other tackles they feel will be available with Giants second pick.
Makes me think Giants should go defense if they really like Simmons or Okudah they go there.
He said he would trade down with Miami
He traded with Miami for their 3rd #70
Quote:
Did I miss something in the last few days? We traded our 3rd this year to the Jets.

But he's got two picks in the third round, Is he getting two picks or does the a) and b) represent two options? I'm so confused.

Forgot about the comp pick. Duh!
Love Simmons and as much as the Giants need an OL, I’d hate to pass on such an unusual and successful football player.
I'm not as high on Wilson, but Charles is someone I could get excited about.
Also we do t have 2 3rd round picks
Also we do t have 2 3rd round picks
This wasnt about what I think we will get. The mock draft simulator had those players available.

Maybe try reading
Go ahead and pick all the defense you want because you're going to need them all if our defense is on the field for 60% of the game.
If we concentrate on fixing the OL now we increase our time of possession, take advantage of our potential HOF RB and protect our QB. It may not translate into points but it will rest our defense enhancing their production and keep games closer where our young talent on offense can steal a few games.
If this team wins 8 games next year (if there is a season) I'd consider that like winning a superbowl with what we've had to endure for the last several seasons. A more realistic number would 6-10.
Time of possesion net OT - ( New Window )

I would like to take your argument and flip it on its head. You cite the time of possession ranking as being in favor of not drafting defense. I'm here to tell you that our shit defense was the reason for the low ranking in the time of possession column. I love this mock draft by blueblood. If we draft two defensive studs in the first 2 rounds (provided the defense is better coached), the offense will be on the field more because we are stopping the opponent's drives. Remember our 1990 & 2007 Superbowl appearances? We stopped those great offenses & gave the ball back to our offense. I know we need to improve the OL, but not at #4. The value isn't there & it might not be at #37 either. Isiah Simmons is a great pick at #4 (#5 in this case).
