What if......

BigBlueDawg56 : 4/1/2020 3:40 pm
It may seem like a pipe dream but what if we sign clowney for 3 years 53 mil. it will probably get him at this point. we can create money for draft picks with signing Williams to an extension and redoing solders contract and a few more slight roster modification.

we then draft either simmons or if somehow young drops to us we take him (hopefully we can trade back a spot or 2 and still get simmons)

We can then go OT in the 2nd and Center in the 3rd and hopefully if we get a 2nd 2 we can add a stud WR to the mix.

FINALLY....our defense would be a strength instead of a liability. Williams Tomlinson Lawrence Clowney Simmons Connelly Fackrell Carter Peppers Badberry Baker Love is a very young solid group with s lot of versatility. we also finally address our offensive line. thoughts????

Our biggest problem was on 3rd and long getting home

On pass rush. Clowney helps only somewhat there. Truthfully Golden is a very important signing.
i'd be all over Clowney like a cheap suit
djm : 4/1/2020 3:44 pm : link
because he ONLY costs money. We have money. I can't believe there are people here who would trade picks and money for a lesser player in Ngakoue. Even if he's Clowney's equal, he's going to cost us a mint in picks and money and Clowney has no real weakness to his game, injury concerns notwithstanding.

I'd be giddy if we got Clowney in a deal like that.
Clowney is a name

He’s so over rated here it’s not funny. How many sacks did he have last year? How many before that playing next to J J Watt? He’s a waste of money. Re sign Golden for a lot less.

How much did he really play next to JJ Watt? JJ misses 8 games a season
sacks....

don't always tell the story. Clowney and Williams are disrupters constantly in the backfield. sacks will come for others like fackrell and carter and xman and even simmons. Plus I guarantee you clowney will play with his hair on fire with a chip on his shoulder. He will play like Jefferson in Fast Times. he will get 12 sacks this year
I wouldn't sign Clowney for 3/$39M
Torrag : 4/1/2020 4:02 pm : link
nevermind $53M. The production just doesn't warrant that payday.

I think his production is better than Williams who we just tagged.

I don't think that's true by the numbers and the situations and psoitions they play are both apples to oranges as we're all aware.
Clowney was playing at an elite
ryanmkeane : 4/1/2020 4:08 pm : link
level in 17 and 18. Had a down year last year, but he's really good.
That's getting awfully crowded there...

Just signed a new inside linebacker and play-caller for significant money also. Assuming Clowney to DE, your pushing team's best players to the bench and making them part-timers. If Clowney stands up -- you're pushing Fackrell, Carter, Ximenes, and Simmons into a rotation?

Wasting resources that can be used better.

Yep, Clowney is complete trash
Interestingly (maybe only to me) Clowney and Williams
Strahan91 : 4/1/2020 4:53 pm : link
are very similar in terms of how they're viewed by fans and the media alike despite playing very different positions/roles. Both were highly touted can't miss prospects who have underperformed relative to their draft stock but are far from busts. They're still very good and productive players but the stats may not reflect that (especially sack totals for both in 2019). Fans and media ding them because they're not the superstars we all thought they'd be.

Him for what reason? Maybe you want to be the Redskins, monsters of the offseason.

Clowney would be another Oliver Vernon on this team. High priced, often injured, and not all that productive when he does play. Pass.
Clowney has a lot of JPP in his game
djm : 4/2/2020 9:19 am : link
giant fans loved to pick his game apart and his fireworks injury didn't help things, but the minute he left the Giants the defense went from bad to worse. Now we wax poetic about the guy and despite all those so called nagging injuries he's still going strong. That trade by DG didn't really work out so well but I understand it, kind of.

Conjuring up Clowney's sack numbers is beyond unfair at this point. Do better. Watch the guy play, some of definitely don't especially when I se a post that says "when has this guy wrecked a game." He helped wreck games last season.

Maybe, but lets not forget Vernon helped spearhead the only good NYG defense we've seen this last decade and we made the playoffs. We also turned that big bad cap crippling doomsday contract so many here lost sleep over into a very good starting guard. In other words, the contract never lived up to the doomsday scenario so many here predicted. And the only reason Vernon let down here was due to injury that no one saw coming.

A Front Four

of Clowney, Lawrence, Williams, and Tomlinson would be very imposing.
