After reading what Colin had posted in his chat session, I understand the point he is trying to make about taking a defensive player at #4 that makes an impact. I know that there are some posters that have a conviction of acquiring an OT at #4 and they make valid points. Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley need help in maximizing their talents and that is building the offensive line. However, Simmons or Okudah could make a bad defense much better. I will not criticize Dave Gettleman for any decision which involves the OT’s, Simmons, or Okudah. The Giants need help in a lot of places. I cannot see where Dave Gettleman cannot go wrong in his decision at #4, unless it is some player or position totally different. I would say the best case scenario would be to get any of the previously mentioned, whether it’s an OT or Simmons or Okudah, and acquire an extra pick in a trade down. That would be everyone’s dream (other than Chase Young being available at #4). I guess it is all going to come down to who is the best available player. Who knows? It may be an OT. We just don’t know, as Colin stated.
Now, I am not saying don't take a great player. What I am saying is the best help we can give the D is controlling the ball on O. We spent 2 top picks on our RB and QB. We need to protect that investment. The best way to do that is to build up the OL. I'm not saying draft an OL to draft an OL. I am saying draft Wills as he is worth the pick. Get back to controlling the clock and the game. If one of these OT weren't worth the pick then I would agree to go with Young, Okudah, or Simmons.
Nobody knows what will happen at the draft. What occurs IF 7 OT are taken round 1/early round 2 before 36? You can’t go for a project tackle and hope that he is good enough this soon. There are 3 tackles that can be taken top 10 that should at least be solid starters for 8 seasons. Wirfs is the only one who potentially moves to Guard in a few years.
The game today is about QB play first and foremeost. The league has set the rule sup that way and it isn't ever going back.
No one is suggesting, or at least I don't see anyone, that if the OT's weren't rated really high to take one anyway. They are that good. The best available in years. Draft one. It's the best thing for this team.
You draft the QB, you gotta protect him. There will be highly rated defenders in every draft.
If Giants re-sign Golden and draft Simmons that will be 8 out of base 11.
Grab a starting center in round 2 to improve the line.
That is why Simmons is a the best pick @ 4 looking at the odds on who is available ... TEs kill us and RBs out the back field ... Simmons should help stop that. Love at FS just due to speed and better abilities will help the 2ndary as well a legit #1 CB in his prime.
The Giants need to improve on defense, no doubt, but they really just need to build a competent defense, it doesn't have to be dominant. If the Giants are gonna get to the Super Bowl in the next few years it will be on the strength of the offense. They've made their bed with Barkley & Jones and now's the time to double down on offense, not diversify on defense.

They also make a young defense younger.
