It's 2:35 in the morning, I just got finished with work, on my second beer, sign onto BBI and I see a quote from Meatloaf. How could I not respond?!
He hit with Bat Out of Hell when I was in 7th grade. Very formative years. His music resonates with me in many ways, and Jim Steinman's writings are some of the best in the business. I still listen to his music almost daily. What is your story about Meatloaf OP? If anyone else is not in their mid 50's or so, no one will recognize that lyric.
to randomly just post a line out of a song or movie and everyone else adds to it or quotes another line. There is no mention of the movie title or song title. Those that know a lot of the lines just post a random line.
Actually the OP should not have even mentioned MeatLoaf.
A typical response, without explanation, would be:
Brings me back. 12 years old rode my bike to the store bought a bong, a pipe, and Bat Out of Hell. I may have only bought it because the cover looked cool. My 20-year-old sister told me I was an idiot and had no musical taste and I think she said I should have bought the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. Of course a few weeks later she changed her tune.
Remember bringing it in to school so I could take it to print shop with the ultimate goal of making t-shirts of the album cover. Dont remember it working out too well:). But a great album! Even with all the hits that it had, I think the title song is still my favorite. But a lot of good stuff to choose from there.
"So now I'm waiting for the end of time to hurry up and arrive"
I saw him at My Fathers in Roslyn Long Island when the album
came out.
I was right by the stage.
It was a great show and so loud that when i left, i couldn't hear for a few hours.
I remember reading a critique/review about the album by (I think) someone from Time magazine or The Star Ledger. The dude hated it and gave a scathing review. Really trashed it brutally.
What I have always remembered about the review was at the end, the writer said that novelty albums / songs come and go but are looked back on fondly with nostalgia. However Bat Out Of Hell will never be looked back on with nostalgia or fondly it is so bad. He was as wrong as any critic in the history of man kind because it is and has been for quite some time now looked back on fondly and with nostalgia by my generation.
Speaking about critical reviews of Bat out of Hell...

Fact: Bat Out of Hell...43 million sold.
Actually the OP should not have even mentioned MeatLoaf.

Bat out of Hell - ( New Window )
+1 Volume is a must for almost every song on the album. Only possible (ironic) exception is, "For Crying out Loud"
