Bored today with a light schedule at work.
Lamar Peters is an interesting guy with the Knicks G League. I will say, the G League team has done a much better job of developing guys than the pro team.
Peters, Wooten, Iggy all should probably start next year with the full squad imo.

But, we all know what's coming. Thibs/Chris Paul/36 wins.
get rid of Randle and replace him with Christian Wood or Davis Bertains.
Mitch Robinson/Kenny Wooten
Christian Wood or Bertans/Kevin Knox
RJ Barrett/Iggy
Anthony Edwards/Dotson
Frank Ntilikina/Tre Jones
That woudld be the semblance of a modern day NBA roster with a lot of shooting and great defense at the point of attack wt PG and C both starting and off the bench.
That would require getting the #1 pick in the draft. If we can't pull that off then I would target Killian Hayes with our pick if its in the 6-8 range.
But, we all know what's coming. Thibs/Chris Paul/36 wins.
I'll add to your last statement - we overpay for Chris Paul in a trade, Thibs plays him 40 mins a game in the first 20 games of the season, and then he goes down with a major injury and is pretty much useless for the remainder of his contract.
I'm also still all in for Haliburton as our draft pick.
I think Hayes/Haliburton our the two most realistic options for us in the 6-8 range. I think Cole Anthony will be tempting because of his name and his father and NY. But I think Hayes has the most potential and Haliburton is the safest pick. I like both more than Cole. I'm not interested in a high usage, low efficiency guard with questionable vision.
Hayes has more of an ability to get into the paint and already has an NBA step back jumper (shooting off the dribble so important for a guard in today's NBA)
Would love to dump Randle. Even if it was part of deal for Paul that saved a ton of money for the Thunder.
he def is talented and has a bit more handle and playmaking then Gallo did. He is also a better defender.
But he isn't in Gallo's world as a shooter though. Which is the concerning part of his game. Can he get there, maybe. THe shot looks nice but Gallo was so much more advanced in shooting. Deni really doesn't have that one stand out trait that he can fall back on.
But very talented. Would take him after Edwards.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just pulled up some Hayes clips. Pretty impressive. A lot like DLO in terms of size, lefty and great hands/touch. I couldn't quite tell how athletic he is (subpar like DLO or better than that).

Is Hayes just has a higher playmaking and scoring potential. And I believe Frank has a lot of qualities that Haliburton has so he can play that role as the combo guard plamaking smart role playing guard for this team.

I would say he has a bit more pop of athleticism then D-Lo but he isn't a twitchy athlete for sure. More of a start and stop angles guy. But he is 6'6 and showed a big increase in athleticism from last year to this year. He only just turned 18 too so you can maybe assume he continues to increase his his athleticism as he continues to grow and get stronger.
For example he wasn't throwing down dunks like he was last year to this year.
I would say his one major weakness is turnovers right now. He kinda is a little careless with the rock. Under a 2/1 assist ration and he has good vision and playmaking ability he is just a bit loose with the dribble.
But he shot 88% from the line so he's got an ability to be a plus shooter to go with his ability to use his size and strength to get into the paint.
The question is can the knicks sell another internation player to the fan base? I think it should make no difference that Killian Hayes is french. But it might get bad publicity and who knows if Dolan wants to stay away from that.
It's a lot easier to choose say Cole Anthony and sell that to the average fan than Killian Hayes. Even though Killian Hayes could very well be a better pick.

Great take on your part, especially your last point.

2. Killian Hayes- PG, ratiopharm Ulm.
6’5”, 192 lbs., 18 years old.
Stats: 12.8 PPG, 6.2 APG, 2.3 RPG, 1.5 SPG, on 45/39/90 shooting splits in 10 EuroCup games played— 26.8 minutes per game.
Hayes has the least amount of flaws in this draft. He is a plug and play guard with a super high basketball IQ. Killian is the player that tops my list of realistic options for the Suns if they are picking 10th due to the chance that he may actually be available if the board shakes out favorably for Phoenix.
He is a well-balanced offensive threat, and while he may lack elite athleticism or burst off the dribble, he is crafty and manipulative with the ball in his hands. He is a three-level scorer and passer, which is extremely rare and why I’ve been back and forth on him and LaMelo as my number one prospect in this year’s draft.

"No. 3 Killian Hayes, France, PG: Hayes makes a leap all the way up to No. 3 on my Big Board on pure upside. He won't turn 19 until this summer -- just a week before Anthony Edwards, who once reclassified and will be among the youngest prospects in this class -- and he's still just scratching the surface in terms of what he can develop into long-term. Meanwhile, the here and now has been really, really good:
Hayes has added a stepback to his diverse offensive package, cleaned up his floater a bit and has been able to overcome his lack of explosiveness with ridiculous savvy as a playmaker. He's not in LaMelo Ball's tier as a passer, but it's an area he's improved in despite being turnover prone. Even in a deep class for point guards, I think Hayes should be considered among the best. (Previous No. 10)
The 6-foot-5 guard has been touted as a player with exceptional court vision and ability to get his teammates involved. Hayes has also proven to be able to create his own shot on the court. Hayes shot 39% from 3-point range in 10 EuroCup games and projects to be able to shoot at the next level.
Hayes is ranked fifth on the latest 2020 Rookie Wire NBA Draft Big Board.
He's shooting 39% from his eurobasket games (only 10), but 29% in his league games.
Also Haliburton is not a wild athlete either but he's 6'5 with a huge wingspan and a great vertical: https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/28176656

THE CREAM OF THE CROP
Killian Hayes
Guard, France
Time has made the heart grow fonder with regard to Killian Hayes. The lure of LaMelo Ball’s uptempo playing style is enticing, but Hayes is still the crowned jewel no one is talking enough about.
Killian Hayes declared for the draft last week, bringing him one step closer to the league, and hopefully New York. The appeal of Hayes remains unchanged: he passes the eye test, has a more complete game, and has the numbers to back it up.
Hayes is superior to LaMelo and the other guards in this class. In his lone season for German club ratiopharm Ulm, Hayes put up solid numbers. Per 36 minutes, Hayes averaged 17.2 points, 8.3 assists, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.0 steals a game.
His shooting numbers are sterling compared to the others: shooting 45.5% from the field, 39.0% from three (5.0 attempts per game), and 90.9% from the free throw line. It’s worth mentioning that these numbers were against adults in one of Europe’s more physical leagues. That experience will come in handy early on in his NBA career.
When you watch Hayes play you can clearly see him in the NBA. Countless plays recall watching D’Angelo Russell all over again, and at times, even James Harden.

I still get scared about drafting poor defenders. It's setting you up for failure down the line, but I do think Hayes has a very similar game to D'Angelo Russell.
I know Nico isn't a high upside player. But I'd love to have him as a back-up/rotational PG for the next 5 years (meaning if tests/measures poorly and continues to drop into the 20s). We've had so many guys that can't run a team.

I don't know about him being a "poor" defender. He probably will have struggles guarding quicker defenders because he isn't light on his feet. But that is what Frank is for.
Hayes from all reports (you can read the stepien) he has a very good bbiq and is a good help and P&R defender and his size allows him to switch on bigger players as well. He is most likely considered to be an avg to possibly above avg defender.
LaMelo Ball is what I would consider a poor defender. Hayes isn't D'Lo in the sense of his defense. But plays a bit like him on offense but with better shot selection and a bit more playmaking.

that changes a lot about Hayes' outlook. 29% to 39% is a huge jump.

I can't say I've watched anything but highlights but based on seeing how his brother developed defensively, that should be encouraging for LaMelo

Agree completely. And they need to stop referring to Oakley is a "Knicks legend," too - I loved the guy, but he was a very good role player.

I know they have nothing to write about- but can the Dolan/ Oakely stories please go away. As a big Knicks fan, I really couldn't care less about this. And this is coming from someone who was a huge Oakley fan...

What?? But I was told he was an all time legend who made 7 all star games...
Oakley is definitely one guy I would never F with though, Haha.
Oakley is definitely one guy I would never F with though, Haha.
The '92-'93 Knicks included (in order of PPG average):
Patrick Ewing
John Starks
Anthony Mason
Charles Oakley
Charles Smith
Doc Rivers
Greg Anthony
Rolando Blackman
Hubert Davis
Herb Williams
Leaving the Charles Smith game apart, that's some guys with both toughness and BB IQ, they certainly make the current group look somewhat deficient on both.
I really thought we had them up 2-0. But I was young & naive. And I underestimated Jordan's fire. The man simply would not let his team lose. He was a machine. The only year MJ lost in the playoffs from '89-90 onwards was '95, when he came back in March & was still in baseball shape. Other than that, the dude won. And won. And won.
Hell, by spring '98, I actually came to begrudgingly like the guy. The Pacers took a big lead in Game 7 of the '98 ECF & he just willed Chicago back into the game & ultimately victory.
The GOAT.
May as well already be a Knick.
I am not too impressed with Hayes or Halliburton. I guess if we pick in the 7-10 range. I wouldn't touch Ball with a 10-ft pole, and Maledon is underwhelming also. Anthony reminds me of Austin Rivers.
If Wiseman, Topin, or Okongwu is available we have to pick one of them even though we desperately need a guard.
Can't wait for Elton Brand to further run this team into the ground, ugh.
I think Cole Anthony will end up being the pick if the knicks stay in the range they are right now..

The 98 game 7 was truly incredible. That Pacers team was completely loaded- one of the better teams to not win a title.
I remember a Scottie Pippen quote after that series along the lines of “The better team didn’t win the series” but could never find it.
Kerr made a huge 3 late for Chicago.

This is pretty cool, honestly. Talk about a kid who showed that he does not need the NCAA.

According to his manager, LaMelo wanted to do it because he worried the team might shut down and his former teammates would lose their jobs. That's pretty classy for an 18-year-old, if true.
