Anyone listen to The Ringer NFL Show?

Sean : 4/2/2020 1:59 pm
I’m not one to criticize the sports media and I get the Giants have been bad, but Kevin Clark is relentless in his bashing of the Giants. Everything they do is wrong. Even taking a shot at Eli in today’s episode.

What ultimately led me to post this was the criticism of adding Jason Garrett & Freddie Kitchens to the staff. He said, paraphrasing, “what does it say about the Giants that they hired two failed HC’s to their staff?”

The early 30’s aged NFL reporter seems to have a personal vendetta against the Giants to the point where I can’t even listen to the podcast because there’s such a bias against them. I know they’ve been bad & I don’t expect pom poms, but when you are going to continue to praise the Cardinals & Browns, I can’t take him seriously.

Anyone else listen and have the same take away?
All the younger media

types love to bash the Giants and Gettleman, without ever really commenting on the previous regime/cap situation/roster talent that DG inherited. I remember the Ringer absolutely torching the DJ pick, and then 6 weeks into the season Bill Simmons was saying Daniel Jones is the next big thing. They love hot takes without any accountability. It's a pretty common take.
Fuck Kevin Clark

He’s a whiny little bitch, who thinks he’s smarter than NFL GMs. I can’t stand that dude.

The Ringer is mostly terrible, but why should anyone give the Giants credit? They've lost 10 or more games 5 of the past 6 seasons.

I don’t disagree, but I lose them when the Browns are praised for all their talent & the Cardinals are praised. That’s a bit much.
It's best to just mute the ringer.

They don't put out much good content.
How many teams don’t have failed head coaches?
Fast Eddie : 4/2/2020 2:14 pm : link
Stupid point. There are many great ex coordinators who didn’t have what it takes to be head coaches

I enjoy listening to Bill Simmons, and used to read his stuff when he was still writing, but The Ringer is absolutely awful. Kevin O’Connor is the only writer on that site that puts out good, mostly unbiased, content. Kevin Clark is one of my least favorite “football writers” around. Robert Mayes is hit or miss, his solo pieces are usually pretty good, but he has a tendency to just go along with whatever Clark says when they are on their pod together.

Good for Simmons for being able to sell to Spotify for the crazy amount of money that he did, but The Ringer sucks.
The Ringer's NFL content

is lacking. They are decent for NBA and MLB.. not much else.
Deleted it from my podcast list...

They have "2 failed HC's"
Section331 : 4/2/2020 2:41 pm : link
who are working for them as assistants, how is that a bad thing? There is a reason they were hired as HC's in the first place, because they were probably pretty good assistants!

And pointing out the obvious in emphasizing the value of having HC experience on a staff with a young HC w/o any.
I listen to that pod pretty regularly

They do have some good inside information from time to time and will have a couple good episodes, but they love hoping on the latest trend and beating it to a pulp. When they are proven wrong, they don't take any responsibility for it and are often condescending about being wrong. Clark is a pompous douche who seems to think he is better than everyone. I can't stand him or his takes.

Mays is a bit better, but can also be a douche from time to time. I agree that they love bashing the Giants any chance they get. As with every other media member, they are still an easy target until they start winning.

They were touting the Browns as the next best offense in the NFL before the start of the season and anyone with half a brain knew that their offensive line issues would probably come back to bite them. When they were proven wrong, they mostly just stopped talking about the Browns and were simply befuddled why it didn't work out.

Oh, and they also conveniently blamed it all on Kitchens, nevermind blaming Dorsey who they praised to no end prior to the season. So, it's no surprise that they are hating on the Giants for signing him as a coach. They often don't use common sense and realize that if you are a failed head coach, it doenn't mean you are a bad position coach, but they play to the crowd and loved piling on. A common theme for people now and days since Twitter has come around.

staff?

What kind of dumb comment is that? Jason Garrett was 18 games over 500 for his career, while I did not want him as our head coach, he is not by any means failed. He’s actually quite successful.

Also, usually these guys were named head coaches because of a track record of success as a coordinator or position coach.

So what does it say about the Giants? It says that the brought in experienced guys who have had success at some point in their career.
I wouldn't get all worked up about this dude's opinion

But Good Lord do I hate Kevin Clark. And he's got a punchable face.

I don't mind The Ringer by & large. I could listen to Simmons & Russillo all day. They really mesh together. If you haven't, take a listen to Rusillo talk about his 2002 year. Classic.

I like KOC & Vernon on NBA too.
I desperately wanted their 2019 Giants take

To be wrong so I could see if they'd admit their error. Sadly, the Giants are not the sort of team that is capable of serving crow.
