Here’s why a Patriots-Lions deal could be in the works: 1) Lions general manager Bob Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia have Patriots roots “Quinn spent 16 years in Foxborough, and Patricia 14 ... Belichick and Patricia still vacation together.” 2) The Patriots and Lions are familiar with each other “Since Quinn became Lions GM in 2016, the Patriots and Lions have made four player trades (including Kyle Van Noy in 2016 and Duron Harmon two weeks ago), and three draft-day trades.” 3) Belichick’s bond with Alabama’s Nick Saban “The Patriots, of course, will have all the inside information they need on Tua as a prospect. No one is tighter with Alabama coach Nick Saban than Belichick. And Belichick has never been afraid of drafting a player with an injury history.” So what would a Patriots-Lions deal look like? The Patriots own just two picks in the top 90 of the 2020 NFL Draft. Volin speculates that the Patriots could try to close the gap in a deal with Detroit by throwing a veteran player into the deal. |
To the extent that there's an ego war happening between BB and TB, Belichick isn't going to go to the top of the draft to prove his chops. If I had to guess, he's aiming to prove that he can make it work with a QB that doesn't have that pedigree, and thus demonstrate that immutable factor in NEP's success is BB, not TB.
Even Gilmore and 2020/2021 #1s would not get them to the 3 hole :)
But even so, hard to pass up a premiere player at that spot.
This
also BB would never mortgage his future to get one guy
no way this happens
2. If the Pats do this, it makes a Giants trade-down way more likely. With Tua and Burrow gone and the Dolphins about to pick, any team that wants Love or Herbert now has to jump over the Dolphins which means a call to DG.
This is a totally different approach than what we are used to seeing with him with regards to the draft. But it's also what makes him a great coach. Bold moves!!!
As a Giant fan I would love it, as it would add value to our pick. And make a trade down very likely.
No way are they willing to move into the 20s....nor is BB giving multiple years/picks....he like accumulating picks...not giving them away
I know fans take their teams owners fiances for granted and only see a trade down as losing out on talented players and the impact it has on the field but from an owners perspective the money saved has an unspoken value.
Exactly. His reason #1 and reason #2 are pretty much the same. Talk about padding out an article and trying to justify your thesis

Bunch of BS strung together by someone sitting at home with a lot of time on their hands.

In fairness, even without the virus, this is what we’ve gotten this time of year for decades..:)
Otherwise, yeah. No.
Anyone could pull it off, it's not hard, it's just that you have to give up ALOT to do it.
You have to have conviction that Tua is going to be Mahomes.
Some of these Boston beats may be in trouble if the Pats dynasty gravy train is really over...
This brings DE-Chase Young that much closer to being a Giant. It also creates more of a market for the other QBs in the conversation. Herbert & Love are both being talked about as top 15 guys and QBs have a way of shooting up the draft board. It only takes one team....... Chase Young or trade down with a QB needy team and get our own windfall of picks.
