Clips of Daniel Jones throwing/footwork (QB Country)

FranknWeezer : 4/3/2020 9:25 am
I’m no footwork guru, but this looks like improvement. QB Country is run by Eli’s college backup at Ole Miss, David Morris (also coached by Cutcliffe).

He's doing a much better job unlocking and opening his hips there.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm not sure if he'll be great, but if he's not, it won't be for lack of trying.
Nice.

Peppers, any draft insight you’re able to share? Typical OT/Simmons chatter? Any inclination to trade back?
I like that DJ is working hard

You're welcome. Thanks for the inside slant you give us on BBI, as well!

To be honest with you, there isn't much. Perhaps due to the novel coronavirus.

What I have heard isn't exactly in line with the popular opinion here either. When I share those sorts of things it tends to engender some bitterness. So I'll attempt to explain as I share.

I can tell you this, there isn't a high expectation for trades in the top 10. Couple that with the word that Gettleman is tough to unseat from his draft slot, I'd bet against any trade back. Not to say it won't happen, just unlikely.

From what I've read here the majority want Simmons. He's a top 10 talent no doubt. However, teams do not operate in that spectrum alone. They weigh everything and yes positional value, need, and team philosophy weighs heavily into that equation. There are just certain positions that hold more value because of importance, scarcity in talent, and where the need is greater.

It's the reason Solder was grossly overpaid. Now NYG has themselves in a position where their highest-paid player is vastly underperforming. So in order to get themselves out of that and to avoid that situation again, they need to use high draft capital. They also have assets (Barkley/Jones) they need to protect.

With all that being said, there aren't many people outside of the Giant fanbase who believe they'll take Simmons. Most everyone I've heard from has them locked in on one of the OTs. When it comes to the OTs it boils down to preference, scheme, and potential. 4 are top 10 worthy players in any draft. Which is extremely rare. You can nitpick anyone of them but scouts and coaches don't tend to do that. They focus more on what a prospect can do and what attributes that prospect has that make them more appealing than the next.

Simmons, Brown, Okudah all have remarkable talent and project well to the next level but.. NYG has a need at a position of high importance where the talent matches the draft slot. All the arrows are putting to OT with the 4th pick.
Beautiful

that all makes sense, thanks for the info and it sucks you take shit for something like that - ridiculous.

I've thought this whole offseason that top 10 trading wasn't going to be a frenzy, nothing since has changed my opinion on this. If Tua was never injured then sure, I can see a very active market. And unless Chase Young slips past Washington, I don't see a trade up there either (not to mention Detroit would grab him anyway in all likelihood).
Glad he's working hard to improve his game

Did you see his ball placement last year? That was pretty special. Get him a good OL and he is going to shine. Decision making and awareness need improvement but that's pretty much standard for rookies. Arrow is definitely pointing up
"The kid...

I question the thoughtfulness of this comment.
What I mean is, it seems lazy. Now, I mean no disrespect, you may have been in a hurry and could possibly be a NCAA QB coach for all I know...
...but aside from the fumbles (I'm in the, likely, very small camp that isn't bothered by this), I'm interested to know what you might have meant by, "flaws."

Caveat, I realize that he is not without them.

Thanks a ton for posting that. Makes sense. Just frustrating that, with 4 of them to pick from, Gettleman appears too stubborn to be willing to entertain the potential of a reasonable drop-back in slot/position, still grab one of those 4 and pick up extra picks, where they're badly needed.
If they are locked in on need

And plan to pass on value to address need anyway, They would be fools not deal back. Not surprising, it sounds like that’s the plan.

Perhaps you are oversimplifying the process of trading back while getting a fair return while not losing the player(s) you like?

I’m talking in the context of Peppers post.

He really does look bigger and stronger. We are so far ahead of the teams looking for a QB this year; all of them....
He's got the smarts, toughness and enough tools to succeed
Torrag : 4/3/2020 3:22 pm : link
You knew he would do the work which is why the Giants drafted him.
the disappointment if we don't trade back is nonesense, IMO
UConn4523 : 4/3/2020 3:38 pm : link
perfect world, sure sounds great and I'd love my guy + picks. But real world the Giants will not think all 4 of the top OT's are the same, and 2 or 3 might be a ways away from their clear cut guy. Dropping back even 2 spots could mean our top guy is gone.

If the gap on these guys is close, sure trade back a bit. But i'm not going to get butt hurt over it. They need to get this pick right and if that happens the extra pick that we could have had while also possibly losing said player just won't be worth it.
Would like to see DJ8 bulk up a bit more
Coach Red Beaulieu : 4/3/2020 3:58 pm : link
become more diesel like Peyton, who was probably sneaky strong and chock you out with a vise like python lock on your nogging, or a thicker gumby build like Eli or Brady. Probably help out with the dainty fingers.
He looks bigger in his thighs
Dave on the UWS : 4/3/2020 5:30 pm : link
the zip on the sideline throws looked good. Same thing happened to Brady (not comparing players). His arm was rated as “weak” when drafted but when he started working with an NFL weight program it got much stronger.

Except that is not how the information was presented. It wasn't indicated that they love a particular OT. Should they, and that would be a different story. What was presented is that the consensus, based on talent, is Simmons, however they are likely to defer to OT based on positional need.
