Would you feel confident in this starting OL heading into the season?
Solder-Hernandez-Pulley-Zietler-Fleming/Gates
Because if the season started tomorrow that would more than likely be the line the Giants would roll with. Tell me how it is any better than last years line?
My point being, the Giants can't ignore the OL in the first few rounds of the upcoming draft. I know most are enamored with Isaiah Simmons, and understandably so considering the defense is in need of playmakers. But stablizing the OL and protecting our young QB is more important to the overall foundation of this football team moving forward.
I hope Hernandez and Solder rebound and I have slightly higher hope on the right side....center is my great concern
(*Had the Giants trade back with the Chargers. LA got the #4 overall, and the Giants received #6, #71)
*#6 - OT Tristan Wirfs (FYI - Simmons was taken by Detriot at 3)
#36 - C Cesar Ruiz
*#71 - LB Troy Dye
#99 - DE/LB Anfernee Jennings
#110 - TE Albert Okwuegbunam
Same. A good Center is what this line needs asap. Next would be a LT.
insanity is doing the something over and over expecting different results.
We already know the answer.
Now, we still need to improve on the talent, but it would be wrong to just force a draft pick because of the need. Trade back or take the best player whether it is defense or offense.
Fleming, especially, has had enough starts to rightfully say "I've done my time and shown enough to be the starting tackle for the New York Giants."
I think adding a Center to go along with what will undoubtably be better OL coaching plus Jones having a season under his belt will enable him to more than just live through the year.
I think we can't underestimate how bad our OL coach was last year. Having Garrett and Columbo will IMO, make those players better than what they were last year.
Getting a better Center is huge though but that isn't coming at #4 and passing on a guy like Simmons who will help our sorry D in so many ways is too good to pass up for what I think is a lesser talent OT. If we were picking 8-10 that would be a different story but I don't think any of the top 4 OL in this draft are worthy of a top 4 pick.
That groups talent level isn't nearly good enough to support a young developing QB. Not even close.

I think the coaching was even worse than the talent and by that alone I expect the unit to be better. If we get a Center that will be a big get and improve the OL tremendously.
I'm not saying the rest of the OL is great, just I think our D was worse and needs the help more urgently. To me the OL will at worst be serviceable this year with a Center and Simmons will go a long way towards making our D better. He's too good a talent to pass up in favor of a lesser talent.
I think Simmons is the better player available if he's there at 4 and fills at least as great a need as an OL. Combine BPA and a need feels to me the better use of the high pick than just going straight need. Simmons fills both, the OL don't.
Healthy Zietler is better than Brown. FLeming is better than Wheeler. Maybe Gates can play center. Would I be happy with that line? No. Doesn't mean you have to go OL in 1st round.
But to answer the OPs question...
Solder - Hernandez - Hennessey - Zeitler - Wirfs
Then Ruiz or Cushenberry rd 2:
Wills/Solder- Hernendez- Ruiz/Gates- Zietler- Gates/Fleming/Solder
Solder, Pulley and Fleming/Gates have enough talent to be on a NFL roster but should not be counted on as a 16-game starters whatsoever. Pulley and Fleming have had opportunities to show what they can do as starters and they haven't met the grade. And anybody on this site looking for a bounce-back year for Solder in 2020 isn't using their brain very well. And even if he did hold up somehow/someway, we all know he is almost certainly a cap casualty in 2021 anyway.
And I am not suggesting that if the Giants drafted two Tackles and a Center with their early picks and plugged them in as starters that the OL would be immediately fixed. They are rookies and need some reasonable amount of time to get acclimated at the next level, make mistakes, learn and develop their games. But I am certainly suggesting that the NY Giants, at the very least, accumulate these potential starters as soon as possible.
The restructuring of the Oline cannot take so long that the rookie contracts of Saquon and DJ run their course at a quicker pace. Can it?
36 Tyler Biadasz Offensive Center Wisconsin 6' 3" 315
99 Devin Duvernay Wide Receiver Texas 5' 11" 210
110 Oluwole Betiku Jr. Defensive End Illinois 6' 3" 250
150 Michael Divinity Jr. Outside Linebacker LSU 6' 2" 238
183 Nasir Player Defensive End East Tennessee St 6' 4" 265
218 Michael Onwenu Offensive Guard Michigan 6' 3" 350
238 Antonio Gibson Wide Receiver Memphis 6' 2" 221
247 Anthony McFarland Running Back Maryland 5' 8" 193
255 Luke Juriga Offensive Guard Western Michigan 6' 4" 295
Care of draftsite.com 2020 mock. I'd shit my pants if we had a haul like this.
And as good as Okudha is they have picked DBs and signed a legit starter in Bradberry. I keep saying I’d be good w Simmons but I pray they trade back to 5 or 6 and get a lineman who might actually block someone this century
Can the Giants get a quality starting RT by dropping down just a few spots? I'm not knowledgeable enough of NFL rosters to know whether this is possible but man does it make sense if say TUA is there at #4 and a team is willing to move up by over-paying the Giants.
Agreed
Funny, PFF thought the Giants improved after FA. But I will listen to "dude on mesage board" with an uninformed medopinion instead.
I could barely make out what you wrote. It is helpful to communicate your opinion to people. Otherwise it is just incorehant rambling.
So basically you said it has to be an offensive lineman at #4 no matter what. Which, of course, is stupid. If Simmons is the best player on the board, you take him. He plays a position that is also a need. He doesn't have to be maybe the greatest defensive player to ever play the game. High standard, don't you think? If he is an All-Pro player every year he will be quite worth it. Especially if you think none of the top 4 linemen in the draft can reach that level.
