I saw a post on the Golf Channel’s Facebook page that rumors are the PGA will resume in June and they’ll get all 4 majors in. The PGA Championship being the first one. Ending with the Masters the 2nd week in November.
Two polls taken this week indicated they 74% of people would be uncomfortable to go into crowds and 72% uncomfortable going to a restaurant. Good luck filling 70000 stadiums. Especially after the next 3 weeks.
Not a chance. The Knicks were just getting ready to start dominating. I seen it in their eyes. This mess has cost them a championship. Lakers didn’t stand a chance...

Who’d they poll? I never got my invite to participate in either of those polls. Did anyone else on here?
But after reading that they now believe the virus can be transmitted merely by talking or breathing on someone, I figure there won't be any college or professional sports until an effective shot is developed.
I can't imagine that close contact sports, especially football and basketball, can be played until then. Maybe golf or singles tennis.
will still be around in the fall. With football being a contact sport, one player gets it, the entire team is quarantined. Game cancelled! Setting up to be a mess unfortunately.

I think you can ply golf and keep social distance an precautions.
Basketball is at the other end of the spectrum (right next to wrestling).

Even if that happens, someone mentioned the British still has the possibility of not being played due to sunlight. Sounded like the majors on US soil wouldn't have an issue being played later in the summer/fall
growing belief is that there will be no sports until a vaccine is developed, although a full proof treatment might make playing without fans possible. But even playing with such a treatment is risky, especially given the transmissibility of the disease, and the expectation of a second wave in the fall.

I doubt that. Why stop at sports then? Why not everything else non essential?

I really don’t think this will happen. It seems so overwhelmingly impossible to think of people gathering in a few months right now but this has all happened so fast. I honestly believe it will turn the other way just as fast at some point. A lot is going to ride on antibody testing imo.

I agree it's a bit premature. We'll know more by Memorial Day, but the situation is dire right now. I'm not sure people will want to incur the risk.
Vince McMahon and the NASCAR commissioner are included.
This is serious.
Isn’t Wrestle mania this weekend? Vince gonna cxl it?
yes, it's this weekend, will be interesting to see if it is canceled, last I read it was still on.
It was all recorded 2 weeks ago in their Performance Center & a separate facility w/o any fans,so it's already to go,it won't be canceled. It's on tonight & tomorrow!
Is that it’s not just the players. Even with a skeleton crew you still have (often old) coaches, team staff, (often old) referees, etc. Andy Reid is 60+ and obese for example, he’s not going to be in great shape if he gets infected. You think the NFL wants senior staff dying to get some games on?
The medical aspect of this needs to take priority unfortunately. I want sports back badly but I don’t see it being realistic for a while.

do you think the country is going to be shutdown for months and months? it is not going to happen..
i do think nba and nhl will cancel but people saying no soirts until 2021 is crazy..
there is going to come a point where we are just going to have start our lives back up and learn to live with this in the universe..
Like the whole world has shut down for fun and we’ll all call it a day soon. Humans are not in control of the situation if you haven’t noticed, there is a virus running wild around the globe. Life is not going to return to normal until we regain control. That could take a while, especially because we haven’t even agreed on the best way to approach it yet (hint: it’s not just saying “fuck it” and ignoring the virus).

ok so we shutdown for 12 to 18 months until a vaccine is created, what is going to do more damage the virus or being shutdown for months?.
I am not even saying this is not serious, it is very serious, and j am not even saying ok time to go back to normal is now or maybe even a month from now, but saying we have to wait for a vaccine is nkt going to happen

Bob Papa said the other day on his show a PGA tour exec told him that there is no way they can financially hold a tour event without the revenue they get from crowd attendance
Rapid, accurate testing and a widely accepted and enforced set of guidelines for infected people would be a great starting point. That’s probably the minimum requirement for getting back to normal.
and a new spike in sickness and death results from the crowds it would entail. They would go over well right? It will scare people 3 times as much as we are now. The reality is Virus 1 mankind 0. Until we can change that score, life as we’ve known it is screwed. Wishful thinking doesn’t change that.

So what is your solution? If enough people have antibodies it will eventually die off..
Secondly if a second surge were to hapoen it would not be nearly as bad because we would be much better oreoared for it plus the hardest hit areas like new york and new jersey would not surge because the virus would not spread as easily...

Well, Humans aren't really in control of a whole lot of anything on this planet. I am of the crowd that thinks if we go too far in trying to "control" this disease, we're going to do more damage than good.
I see the current plan of self isolation lasting until Memorial Day. If the country is told "you know, we gotta keep doing this for another x amount of months..." people are going to say "f it" and go back to work, and out to dinner, etc...
I think we will see some sort of Sports this year not until the summer with No fans or major restrictions at stadiums.
You cannot keep the country on lock down for months and months. This has nothing to do with the Fucking stock market, but people need to work and bring in income ,states and local municipalities need to collect Taxes to function.
With the so called stimulus we will be ok for two months but after that the Government cant just keep printing money,
Start Incrementality with the healthiest maybe ages 19 -40 keep the people most at risk under quarantine.
The President has repeatedly suggested reopening the economy. This might be about how to reopen, when and under what circumstances.
I agree. They will figure something out, there’s many ways they can make it work. Most of the solutions will be no fans, and that’s fine for a while.
Exactly. I'd be happy watching sports with no fans for a period of time. I'd be happy watching anything besides the paint dry in my home office. This is brutal. Let's start working towards some sort of normalcy.
So all sports are def feasible it’s whether you want
For players - you take the abbot test 2 hours before every game. If a player tests positive they cannot play. You have stipulations in place if a whole team has to go on quarantine and forfeiture processes etc.
You have every player take an antibody test as well so you know who has been exposed already and who hasn’t and you take necessary precautions.
For stadiums you essentially need to start to get ahead of this thing and see where new infections are come June 1 and more importantly start to administer mass antibody testing so that we have an understanding for who (likely) has immunity until a vaccine is in play. Once you start to have that number you can evaluate second surges and the like.
In a conference call with major league sports commissioners on Saturday, President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September, sources familiar with the call told ESPN. Link - ( New Window )

Zero chance, IMO, that MLB starts in June.

I think most fans would be more than OK with playing in empty stadiums. I know I sure as hell would.

Basketball is at the other end of the spectrum (right next to wrestling).
I feel bad for the long suffering Laker fans...their drought continues

Its an option. The leagues should modify a bunch of fields and stadiums to remove the stands, or how hard is it to create a simple baseball field?

And prepare to see a lot of empty seat when they return & if people are allowed to attend the events.
