Mock Drafts are dumb

chitt17 : 4/5/2020 3:34 pm
No one knows what the Giants are going to do. I bet Coach Judge has more say in this than coaches in the past. Personally, I would like to see them trade that first pick. But what do I know? What do all these writers know? Nobody knows. They're just writing for something to write .
Of course they mean zip. That said,

discussions about these mocks are invaluable to me since I don’t watch college football. It helps me learn as much as possible about prospective draftees.
If you don't like them

Don't look at them.
Mock drafts having little to do with who is picked

But it gives us an idea who might be available/when

They’re done mostly for entertainment value correct?
one point to remember

this board wanted Rosen a couple of years ago and Haskins last year. This board generally doesn't get it right but it is fun.
And you have whole lot of what else to talk about offseason?...

I'm waiting.
Sorry to rain on your parade but I just

entered mine, they might be dumb to some but I have gotten a few right over the years so based on that concept it's fun if you put some time and effort into the exercise. : )
not as dumb as

fantasy. and we don’t have the choice to avoid that.
What they do for me is they give me targets

To become more familiar with. So lfor me a point of reference to help me educate myself about potential players. So I know who I like and who I don’t. So then I wait to see who we pick.
Do you feel better having expressed you feelings....

I used to consume everything about NYG / NFL Draft

about 10 years ago. Nothing close to that now.
There wasn’t one (or a few) bad drafts that turned me away, it’s just that now I see that no matter what I research and hope will happen, it’ll always be out of my control. I still care and hope they find the right players ... but spend a lot less of my time thinking about it.
I'd rather read a mock draft

any day over this crap.

It's that time of year on a football site when everyone happens to be isolated. I like reading well thought out mock drafts at this time of year. It lets me know that things are still somewhat normal; same as every year we get a thread like this.
Lots of things that are just for fun are dumb, at least mock drafts are harmless.
Signed up in 2016, never posted (of note)

And the only recent thread active on is this one - where you post about a topic you don't enjoy, but haven't posted anywhere else.

Here's an idea: skip the threads you don't like. You'll probably figure it out by your 5th or 6th year here.
What I find humorous
Gman11 : 4/5/2020 7:05 pm : link
is when some guy on his couch starts ranting because the Giants drafted some guy in the fourth round and he's crying, "How could they do that? I had him rated as a 7th rounder!" Like Mr. Unemployed knows better than a bunch of lifetime scouts, coaches and general managers.
Yes they are, however, they are amusing and in some cases
Jack Stroud : 4/5/2020 7:12 pm : link
informative about players we rarely get to see.
They are pretty dumb
jhibb : 4/5/2020 8:10 pm : link
but not as dumb as grading the draft picks the next day, mostly based on how closely they matched the writer's dumb mock.
They are fun

But all these lists and mocks end up doing is helping to build the anger in people when players go earlier than excepted. It doesn’t matter what these people say even if they are qualified to judge collegiate talent. It also doesn’t matter if only one team loves a player. That means he’s getting drafted high and should have been drafted high.

Not to mention the countless instances where a so called reach ends up a steal or the steal ends up a bust.

It is kinda fun on those few occasions when you look back over those past drafts and find out that maybe those scouts, coaches, GM's maybe should have thought about adding Mr Unemployed to their staff:)....things might have gone better.
Doing a mock draft yourself
Vanzetti : 4/6/2020 4:53 pm : link
Will teach you more about the players and draft process than anything else

It’s fun exercise and informative if you do it right, which takes a time commitment
