NFT: New PGA Tour schedule released today

GiantGolfer : 4/6/2020 1:51 pm
Highlighted by the Ryder Cup the week after the US Open. I’m sure the players will grumble about that, but at least they are playing golf this year!

Thanks for the info. At least it's something!
Daylight

Forgetting for a moment the likelihood of any of this, how do they expect there will be enough daylight to play the US Open in September, with 3 hours less daylight, or the Masters in November, with the clocks pushed back to sunset is 5:30pm? Will they have to limit the amount of players?

For the Masters, we could see something similar to last year, when the fourth round featured threes starting at 7:30 due to incoming bad weather later that day. My guess would be that they start a bit later, go in pairs and aim to get done by 5.

It also might be easier for the Masters to deal with the daylight issue since there should only be 80-90 participants to start.
They have months to plan, I suspect portable

lighting could be added.
The first event back will be in August?

UGH. Was kinda hoping they'd find a way to have the Travelers. It's one of my favorite weeks in CT each year.
Late summer is optimistic.

The players may be able to get on a course to play, with testing and monitoring. Spectators, not so much.

Maybe you start the round a little earlier, no?
Luckily CBS and Fox have CBSN and FOXSports 1

To work around with NFL and college football obligations on the weekends during the Open and Masters.

7:00 AM
Sunday, November 15, 2020 (EST)
Sunrise in Augusta, GA
5:25 PM
Sunday, November 15, 2020 (EST)
Sunset in Augusta, GA

This is doable. Start the rounds at 7am. I believe they normally start them at 7:30am in April.

And you could start of both 1 and 10 tees and have threesomes. Certainly doable.
The Masters in November will be weird.

I always look to that as the official start of spring. Oh well. Here's to everything be normal again in '21.

A big late in the season Giant game and a great Sunday leaderboard at the Masters. Could be an incredible day if it happens. Make it so!

ryder cup tickets. i was actually ok with the event being pushed back a year when that idea was floated, but now i'm excited. as an international event, i expect that it will have special meaning this year.

A big Giants game in November? Hell, I'll settle for a meaningful Giants game come Columbus Day weekend after these last couple of seasons, Haha.

The Masters is a limited field, not the full PGA weekly 156 players. Early April is barely over 12 hours of light.

They could limit the US Open entries too, but they should be able to get everyone in if they start a tad earlier. Talking 32 tee times, 6 per hour starting off both sides. I think these guys take 5 hours to play a round so they should be all done by 4pm, maybe 5 pm.

earlier with friend who lives in Cumming, GA. Assuming things are back to normal, we'll be going to the Tour Championship at East Lake Labor Day weekend. That's always a fun tournament. We most the Saturday two years back when El Tigre won.
last year
giants62 : 4/7/2020 7:27 am : link
Every year the US Open is played on the days of the year with the most daylight...and even with starting at 6:45am, they barely make it through the full field on Thursday and Friday. I guess they figure there is enough daylight to just fill up the four days with golf, meaning finish Round One sometime Friday, and Round Two sometime Saturday. Then post cut, finish Round Three Sunday morning, etc. I'd say the USGA has thought this through, but who knows with them.

The Masters is entirely different. They have a smaller field and going off last years tee times which began at 8:30, some flexibility of moving them earlier on the first two days. But again, as it is, with three players per group, going off 1 and 10, they take play right till sundown.

In the end, who really cares? It's golf.
All dependent......
