or even listen on the radio. My wife and I agreed about that yesterday. But paradoxically, at this stressful moment, we're both enjoying quiet time at home.
for the inaugural season of Trash Panda's baseball. Opening day was next week in the new stadium. First year in my town and a AA affiliate of the LA Angels. The new stadium looks great... unfortunately the team probably won't be playing any games until June/July.
If nothing else, the injured players on all teams are at least having time to get healthy and play when the season starts. That's the one positive I'm taking out of this.

Even a half season would be fun, maybe they'll be able to start around July 4th and play 80-90 games or something like that.
The logistics of reorganizing the schedule, travel, allowing for an abbreviated restart of "spring" training for players to get in game shape are a nightmare, of course. But how great would summer/fall baseball be to help us feel like life is getting back to normal.
Even if they play to empty stadiums for a month or two for safety reasons, I'd tune in every day
I coach my son’s little league team and it really sucks that we can’t play. One of my biggest joys is watching little kids learn the game and see the excitement on their face when they get a hit or make a catch.
Many years ago I used to umpire Little League baseball
I really enjoyed the 9-12 year olds. They were so totally into the joy of the game. Now the older kids, they would be into other things like trying to impress their girlfriends.
Yeah, I miss it too. That StratoMatic season really didn't interest me at all. Last time I checked in on them, they had Pete Alonso hitless after 7 games, Diaz with blown saves, and Zach Wheeler was the Phillies leading pitcher.
There is no place in the known universe where those 3 things can happen simultaneously.
I'm hoping that there's at least some MLB this summer. They can't redo the schedule (travel arrangements would be tough). Maybe pick up the schedule July 1st (or August 1), play 3-4 weeks of "spring training" games on their existing schedule (make the games free to fans). And then get into an expanded playoff setup.
I wouldn't be shocked if we don't see sports for awhile, until at least there's a vaccine. There's a fear this virus could return in the fall & be much more deadly. Ugh. I pray to God that's not the case.
I lost interest pretty quickly. Virtual Ottivino was off to a horrible start. He blew one game and nearly blew another. Virtual Sanchez and Virtual Giancarlo are already injured.

This was going to be the first year I was not coaching my older son in 11 seasons. He is 15 and decided not play because schoolwork is too much. If they had a JV team in his school he probably would have played. But, the varsity had like 20 or more returning players the last 2 years. He didn't want to sit for at least 2 years while taking away from his studies.
I had some up and down seasons coaching him, but the last two were awesome. Finally playing full baseball rules and he finally was with a really good team. We won 1 championship and lost in the sem-finals the other year.
Now, my younger one was chomping at the bit to play this year. Last year was his first experiencing pitching. It was amazing because he is normally an excitable, high strung kid. On the mound he keeps his composure. After throwing a couple of balls he does an exaggerated deep breath and shakes out his arms. It was kind of adorable and amazing at the same time. I am hoping we get a season in, but it's not likely.

There is much speculation, some of it very dire. What s become obvious is they don’t know.
I heard Dr Fauci state if it did come back, it wouldn’t be as bad, he stated several reasons why.
But I m with you SF, that scenario is terrifying. I try to get through each day best I can, I lost my wife who was a part of my life for the past 57 years, 47 married. in January, I m going this alone, it s tough.
I ve considered cutting back on amount of news I watch, getting repetitive and too political for me. But I still check it out every morning and evening.
I m trying to stay positive, finding it s best to find something productive to do each day, and not look to far down the road, nothing positive comes from that
I comply with the migration the best I can, other than that, what else can you do.

Interesting, though I don't know if this feasible or wishful thinking... Link - ( New Window )
Personally, and i'm sure I would be in the minority, I think i'd rather they just cancel the season instead of doing this. This would get old and boring real fast IMO.
A fun day out. Oh well.
Maybe Jed Lowrie will finally be ready.

You could see half empty stadiums.
