Over 18 NFL personnel execs were polled by McGinn on QB’s.
He also scored only a 13 on Wonderlic test. It was quoted by one executive that he is only a RPO QB. Executive said that Sarkisian tried to introduce some pro offense concepts that Tua couldn’t handle so they went back to just RPO stuff.
Looks like Tua could drop in the draft especially with his medical red flags. If you draft him as your franchise QB you expect him to play for the next 10 years.
Next Thursday is going to be very interesting with respect to Tua who may have the biggest Boom/Bust potential in draft.
I really like Tua but his medical history scares the hell out of me
Teams could be just giving smoke...hoping other teams bite.
be careful of smoke a week before the draft.
but also it totally doesn't hurt the trade value. The only thing that would hurt our trade value is DET wanting to trade the pick. If Det trades and there are two qb's worth taking then why would the other team need to trade up.
In theory if Tua is slipping and DET does keep the pick to go Okudah. And Herbert was the only other top 5 QB. Then we could play the dolphins and chargers against each other.
If they both think Tua is a great secondary option they probably wont trade with us anyway.
if we only want to trade down 1 or 2 sports...only having 1 QB worth taking probably helps the giants value. THat woudl mean the chargers would HAVE to jump in front of the dolphins
I still think that Jake Fromm is going to surprise everyone and be the class of this QB draft.
Arm needs to add some strength which is doable. The tools and brains are there to be successful
Tagovailoa came off the bench to lead a comeback win over Georgia in the national championship game as a true freshman and finished his college career with remarkable numbers: 7,442 yards and 87 touchdowns with just 11 interceptions over three years while playing for three different offensive coordinators. "He's got the moxie," an NFC quarterbacks coach said. "He's got a short release for a left-hander. He's got quick hands. He's got great feet. He's athletic. He's just got something to him personality-wise, too." Compared to Joe Burrow, Tagovailoa is "a little more twitched-up," an AFC scout said. "He's got some traits about him that seem like they're high-level -- instincts, accuracy, quick release and even some of his mobility. Durability is just the question there. When he scrambles and gets out, whoever has him is probably going to be holding their breath."
He played for 3 different OCs.
I think he can handle the NFL fine.
You can't believe anything published at this point.
2020 NFL Draft: League execs, scouts, coaches assess QB class - ( New Window )
I think this is smoke from a team who either (1) does not like Tua and wants the deniability if they go in a different direction because fans will be gung ho for Tua or (2) wants Tua to fall.
If he isn't drafted in the top 3 due to medicals, and Herbert is still in play. Teams will need to jump Miami to get him
Which is why:
His mocks tend to be good
and
his write ups (currently in the Athletic) quote a variety of opinions. As I referenced in my The Athletic thread -- the ones on the OL prospects vary quite a bit, but there seems to be a consensus that its not an obvious blue-chip crop.
Apparently "football smarts" can be an independent trait.
It is like in Baseball as written in Moneyball, teams will use people like McGinn to find out where other teams are looking, but the trade off is you have to give honest answers enough of the time.
Interesting that yu say that. Because ALOT of people here were pissed about Jones because they said that this year's class would be so much better.

This is the allegation. Don't know if I believe it either. Anyways it just takes one team and there is a TON to love about Tua.
Not to be confused with the other NFL S&M week. I think this year it falls out somewhere between #SalutetoService and #MyCleatsMyCause.

God the Giants don't need a QB. The QB's in this class are garbage.

A lot of QB’s took a step back or the warts were exposed like Fromm (a guy I was on board with), Eason, and Hebert (who probably is QB2 last year and might be QB3 this year) or got injured like Tua who was QB1 back in August. 2019’s class certainly looks better today.
He's also a much better athlete. Tua won't survive in the NFL playing like Jackson (an dhe can't anyway) so if he can't process defensive schemes he's going to have a short and difficult NFL career.
I wish the kid luck, just glad it isn't us that has to make this decision.

But he doesn’t have the physical question marks that a Tua does.

But Tua is a much better pure passer than Jackson. Tua doesn't need to play like Jackson
lol
It doesn't matter what anyone on BBI thinks. And GMs aren't relying on what other GM's say so this whole "lying season" cliche is really just for fans.

Yes, but I was referring to the low wonderlic. If those wonderlic scores hold any value about a QB's ability to process what's in front of him, it matters more for a guy like Tua and less for a guy like Jackson.
Lamar Jackson can overcome that by being an unreal athlete though. I see a pretty bright career for him, but one that is shorter than other good QBs. I doubt you see him pick apart people in the pocket once his AA starts to fail him.
LOL - Remember when this time last year people were calling this the greatest QB class ever, and saying we should wait and not waste a pick. This is why you can't count the chickens like that
