A quick note on Gil Brandt

YANKEE28 : 12:30 pm
Last week on BBI, there was a post put up which questioned the age and competence of Gil Brandt.

This morning (not scientifically), I have been reviewing over a dozen "Top Board" projections by the well known and respected draft predictors.

Well after Round 1, the CLEAR WINNER, is Gil Brandt.

His top 21 prospects all went in Round 1 and about the only "slight reach" would be Cesar Ruiz, who Brandt said would go around pick #47.

Congratulations to Gil Brandt on a masterful job predicting Round 1. Brandt actually predicted the Top 150 on his board and I have every reason to believe he will also do well tonight as we move from 33 to 106.

he continues to be the best draft expert out there. He also loves what Gettleman is building and has been pretty vocal about that.
I can't
Eric from BBI : Admin : 12:35 pm : link
believe he's still doing this either... how old is he?
He is

87
He's also
crooza172 : 12:37 pm : link
One of the ONLY ones to publicly state their love for Daniel Jones well before he was selected. This guy is by far the best out there.
I have the greatest respect for Brandt. He's work as a football exec
Ira : 12:37 pm : link
gives him a background that few, if any, football media have.
Gil is The Godfather
Optimus-NY : 12:37 pm : link
I love him. He's forgotten more than almost anyone else will ever know about draft scouting.

Yep. There's a reason that Dallas was a legit contender for 25 years.

I thought he was older than that. He's the football version of Abe Vigoda

Abe reported to the Godfather

Gil IS the Godfather !!
Gil and Pat Kirwan have an annual bet they talk about each year
Racer : 12:45 pm : link
Rank your top 100 and see how many actually go top 100. PK has NEVER beaten Brandt. The year Kirwan got 93, Brandt got 95.

The guy really is amazing. Very glad he was recognized with a gold jacket.
good info as always yankee

McGinn and Jeremiah are the top 2 in my book but Brandt is still as solid as anyone else out there.
Wow
Johnny5 : 12:54 pm : link
I always liked Brandt but I had no idea he was that accurate with his predictions. Awesome!
he is
Allen in CNJ : 12:54 pm : link
a brilliant man... God bless him!
I think people think he’s losing it a bit bc he doesn’t sound
mfsd : 12:57 pm : link
as sharp on the radio anymore. But he’s still a great listen, and still knows his stuff as well as anyone, as this thread shows.
That he only became a HOFer just recently

is yet another example of the word egregious

Is it possible you don't listen to NFL Radio on Serius? Gil Brandt has a regular show.

I think he's got inside info from just about every scouting department in the NFL. Not sure he's better than anybody else in predicting who the best 100 draft picks will be,, but he knows how they're evaluated by the clubs.

Good work -- to you and Gil! Aging like fine wine...

Would you be willing to list some (all?) of the other analysts whom you compared? Thanks.

I'd love to get Sirius, but it's not in my budget.

It's free to stream for everyone right now until 5/15.
In that case

it looks like we will have to snatch Hennessy at 36 - he has him listed at 34.

For whatever its worth, Brandt is saying that the 4th best player left out there (we have the 4th pick tonight), is Free Safety Grant Delpit.
Gil is still a brilliant football guy
PatersonPlank : 2:20 pm : link
I think some people think he's not because his speech has really slowed, since he is you know 87. Sometimes he'll forget a name or a thought, and if you didn't know who he was I can see someone thinking this guy is off.

I love the Sirius shows, especially Moving the Chains. Eric you really should sign up. Just don't buy another war history book

And they will take $5 month from then on.
Why didn't he catch on with another team

After he was canned by Jerry Jones? He was only 57!

they don't call Gil the godfather for nothing
djm : 3:39 pm : link
he's the king. Should have been in Canton long before when he finally did get inducted.
The Huddle Report's top 24 all went in round one
Milton : 3:50 pm : link
And 26 out of their top 32 went in round one, so they did better than Brandt.

Moving the Chains is the shit. I miss pure football shows. The NFL is missing the boat with it's core audience.
There were
XBRONX : 4:05 pm : link
20 no brainer round one selections.
Great Info
Thanks for posting.
