in this day and age he'd be suspended for the rest of the season for his hit on Ike Hilliard.

i dont even know if he would be allowed in the NFL now the way he played

dirty fucker

Incredibly dirty player, got me so angry when we played them back in 2010 and he ripped Steve Smith to the ground by his helmet. Was karmic as hell to watch him get his ass beat by Andre Johnson later that same season. Johnson was a noted choir boy/high character guy before the fight, but Finnegan was so widely hated that the fight did nothing to hurt that rep haha.

Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith
Rick in Dallas : 5/18/2020 10:50 am : link
My blood would boil when Smith would take his helmet off in end zone after a TD and they would show a staff person putting the ball in an equipment bag after he scored a TD.
Irvin pushed off more than any WR in history and never had a penalty called against him. Plus he was a total ass in the community and a big time drug user. Terrible human being.
Any community stories you'd care to share

I used to live in Dallas Fort Worth area (1981-1983). The Cowboys I met were pretty cool (e.g., Ed Jones).

The only one who was kind of annoying was Butch Johnson. We'd be at a club and everyone would clear the dance floor so he could do his stupid TD dance. It was harmless...but annoying.

Extremely cocky and arrogant. If you lived in the area as I did you would get a lot of it.

In retropsect, back in the 80s there was probably two players I'd pay to see: LT and Cunningham.

But McNabb was promoted as such a "nice guy" and was one of the faces of the league with Chunky Soup commercials on TV all the time.

He was a fucking asshole.

I agree, McNabb was an off the radar POS, until after he retired.

Not sure how "intentional" it was. Seemed par for the course for that era, a violent hit that was more tragic than on purpose from what I could tell.

The Burt/Marshall hits on Montana were worse, the intent to clearly annihilate a player. The closest thing to those guys know is Clay Matthews, and none of his hits except maybe that one against Wilson in the 2014 NFC Championship come close.

Arrested in 1996 in motel room with hooker, cocaine and other drug paraphernalia.
In 1998 fought his teammate Everett McIver using scissors and caused a deep cut in McIver’s neck. Jerry Jones buried this story.
In 2011 Irvin settled a sexual assault lawsuit out of court.

Irvin is a total asshole.

dirtier Burt hit was when he was a 49er and hit Jeff Hostetler in the knees. The Giants always felt that was intentional and went after Montana extra hard in that game because of it.
Yes, if you watch the game broadcast, Madden mentions that

He says that he barely recognized Montana when he saw him out of uniform the week before the game because he was so skinny.

And, of course, it's always funny when Niners fans whine about the Marshall hit when they have nothing to say about Burt diving at Hostetler's knee.

Get a clue. The Burt/Montasna hit was nothing more than a shove. Blame the concrete known as the GIants Stadium turf at that time for the concussion. Tee Marshall /Montana hit was a classic example of relentless pursuit. Montana ducked LT and Marshall was coming full steam. Tough shit.

Totally agree with DonnieD89 and Jack Tatum. The guy was a total asshole as a person who nicknamed himself “The Assassin” and then went out and maimed and effectively killed Darryl Stingley. And afterwards he showed very little remorse.
He wins this award going away.

You're right, I rewatched the hit (18 seconds in the video) and by that angle it's one of the softest hits I've ever seen in my life. Helmet directly into a man's upper back is only an issue if you're a wimp QB under 230 lbs.

If anything Montana should probably feel responsible since letting Marshall land his helmet onto his back was probably responsible for him getting CTE. Probably got whiplashed between his shoulder blades and then the fall on the ground.

Marshall's brain had no chance. I mean the guy did a silly thing like apologize to Montana's wife after the game. I mean, why do that unless your brain was rattled? It's not like he did anything wrong.

If it makes anyone feel better, Montana still has many aches and pains to this day. Karma got him for what he did to Leonard Marshall. Even I have to sit here and acknowledge it.

Not that I bothered to note their handles, but the BBI posters who were pulling for the Philthy Green Birds in the Supe never made any sense to me. And I’ve been at way too many Giants home games which have ended with the knuckle dragging fans from the City of Brotherly Brawls singing that fucking song and flapping their arms. The Marshall hit on Montana was vicious but not dirty. The big problem for Montana was that Marshall was going full steam and Montana jumped backward to avoid LT. Marshall was going hard, but he wasn't out to cripple Montana.

Yeah, but they weren't assholes about it. Tatum called the hit "another notch in my belt".

Remember him with the stickum? Had that glue all over his hands and arms.
Tatum wasn't the stick-um guy (Lester Hayes was the stickum guy)
bc4life : 5/19/2020 3:05 pm : link
Wikipedia - "Tatum had said he attempted to visit Stingley in the hospital, but was rebuffed by Stingley's family."
ccording to Madden, "It was something that ate on him for his whole life."[4] According to Stingley in his 1983 autobiography, Happy To Be Alive, Tatum never made any effort to apologize or to see him after the incident.[
They were supposed to meet once in a television interview, but Stingley backed out when he found out Tatum was promoting his new autobiography during the interview.[8] The two never spoke with one another after that day"
