DeAndre Baker's attorney believes the Giants cornerback is the victim of a "shakedown" and is being accused of a crime he did not commit. But he also believes Baker has been "scared straight" by this brush with the law, and will come out of this a better man than he was before.
"He's got an opportunity to become the next Ray Lewis and not the next Ray Rice," attorney Patrick G. Patel said in an exclusive interview with SNY late Sunday night. "There's two guys who went in two different directions. I told DeAndre that. And he seems very focused. He's scared straight. I can say that." |
I m betting Mr. Baker is starting for the New York Football Giants this season.
People rush to judge, they might have been wrong this time.

I’ll take that bet. At least against starting week one.
LOL....Good one Doc!
1. I always thought good lawyers go with the no comment route instead of proclaiming their clients innocence in the media.
2. Why the hell are you comparing Baker's charges to Ray Lewis - who was charged with two counts of murder?
If you followed the story, they were trying to go the no comment route but due to how big this got in the media he had to release a statement in order to quell the “mob” who were trying to crucify him. Has nothing to do with how good or bad a lawyer is, this is a terrible statement
Why would Rice be the cautionary tale that Baker's attorney would choose?
I was thinking the same thing. Rice has avoided any other controversy and would probably have retired with fanfare if it weren't for video surfacing.
This lawyer has sounded like a dipshit all along
If I had to guess, and this is a complete guess.
Baker won a pig pot and the guys didn’t Want to pony up. So he intimidated them into paying up with the watches.

This after the accusers found a dozen roses and a big black duffle bag on their front porch.
Ray Lewis is the last person I would use !
Aside from this incident his behavior last year and in this off season are very questionable. Retaining him sends a very bad message w/r/t the new attitude JJ wants to install.
However he may still have talent and if he is innocent, DG may be able to recoup a small part of what he paid for this immature ball player.
Dunbar: I wasn't involved in this incident. Here are new statements from the witnesses that clear me.
Baker: Nothing criminal happened. Here are statements from other witnesses to contradict the witnesses the police relied upon.
Dunbar is in very good shape here unless the witnesses claim they were harassed or coerced into new statements. Or if prosecutors think he was an accomplice even if witnesses didn't know that (planning, helping them escape, etc).
Baker not quite as good but anytime witnesses start changing significant parts of their stories it ain't good and prosecutors could decide it's not worth pursuing particularly if the victims are unsympathetic characters.
Ray Lewis is a piece of shit
I'm starting to think that Deandre's biggest challenge at the point is the NFL front office.

Yes. Starting to look like a wrong place at the wrong time thing. He was stupid to be there, but didn't do anything.

The prosecutor requested that he not be let out on bail.
That’s the opposite not requiring bail.
The NFL suspended him for 10 games and had enough evidence to make it as long as they wanted. I think the maximum Baker might get from the league (if he's cleared) is 4 games, with 2 not being out of the question.
Drebin: LOOK! It's the missing evidence in the Jones murder. Smith WAS innocent!
Captain Hocken: He went to the chair 6 years ago Frank.
Judge wasn't even the coach of the Giants at that time. How would it be on him? Do you think DG consulted with him on a draft pick just in case he wound up leaving the Patriots a year later to become head coach for the Giants?
Yes, we should blame Judge. Maybe Belichick and the whole New England franchise while we are at it.
Supposedly it's a traveling dice game that was at the center of everything. Also, Dunbar's attorney is a state rep in Florida and actually worked side-by-side with the lead Detective when he was a former prosecutor
another brilliant take. ugh.
My prayer is the charges are dropped, he makes it to camp, and I'm going to be the NFL suspends him just because they can for 4 games? I just pray is all.
It was not a reach. He was the #1 rated CB in the draft. Giving a 4th and a 5th is chump change.
You don't see those in county lockup. And, not for nothing, even though he is only a CB, he would likely kick the living shit out of most cretans behind bars. Have you met and NFL player?

Walking past big hairy dudes who are rattling jars of Vaseline between the bars, telling you that you smell sweet, and telling you all the disgusting things they want to do to your ass would cause most anyone to be scared straight.

Thanks for clearing that up for, I can see nothing gets passed you.
No problem. Glad I could help....
When the story first came out none of us could believe how stupid he was and it's the most idiotic thing we ever heard. A shakedown makes it more "normal".
He's clearly guilty of something. What he gets convicted of is the real question.

Scared straight that hanging out at low security card games in the ghetto when you are a multimillionaire with a lot more to lose than the other people at the table.
Patel is a Jersey attorney. Cohen is Florida attorney.
Ralph's story says Patel is Baker's "other" attorney.
Link is to Patel's website. I find it somewhat amusing that his profile page has a clip from a 1989 article in the Hudson Dispatch describing him as a "29 year old powerhouse."
That would be OK if it were part of a history leading to the present. But no, that's it, one clip from 1989.
For "Representative Cases", we get "Under construction."
The domain name for his website is "201injurylaw.com."
So, we'll see.
That's Patel with one L - ( New Window )
Never underestimate the ability of "the more balls than brains" folk from doing something stupid.
I am not saying Dunbar and Baker did anything, but the old saying -"young, dumb and full of cum" doesn't materialze from nothing.

but I'm gonna pull some asinine robbery like this? I don't know if he has committed a crime before, but clearly if he did he wouldn't be stupid enough to do something like what he is accused of.

I hear you, I've done many, many dumb things especially at that age in my lifetime. Just think it's a bit extreme to go from no criminal record to armed robbery when you actually "made it" and are in the NFL. It just doesn't add up to me.
