BREAKING: NFL owners have voted to approve the resolution that would prevent teams from blocking assistant coaches from interviewing for coordinator positions, per sources. This is an important step.
It's got some upside as a proposal. I've sometimes thought it was the right direction for the league fir quite some time watching promising young coaches get deniwd advancement opportunities.
This help minority coaches like Beienemy who's offense might be great but has the shadow of Reid stealing the light.
Not particularly. Bieniemy is already a coordinator, so the only jobs he can interview for without permission are head coaching positions. That was already the case for him, so this alone doesn't help his particular scenario.
It does help him that teams now need to interview two external minority candidates. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't be on almost every team's short list in that context.
The thing they really need to figure out a solution for is how to allow candidates to interview for vacancies even while their current team is in the playoffs, or to suspend the entire interview/hiring process until after the Super Bowl altogether. Until that is corrected, the assistants on the best teams will always be at a disadvantage (which worked out in the Giants' favor with Spags in 2007, IIRC).
But the gist of his post is true. It will help coaches step out of the shadows. There are always assistants with heat to their names in league circles. The league never wanted poaching to this extent. And it's a valid concern
RE: I would favor a hiring freeze until after the Super Bowl
We would have had a real OC IN Stefanski instead of a puppet like Shula. The Shurmur years might have been slightly less awful.
be careful what you wish for. "slightly less awful" might mean that Shurmur is still here.
The scary thing is if the Giants knew that we'd have this COVID-19 offseason, they almost assuredly would've kept Shurmur to keep some level of organizational "continuity".

What?

I eould take it the other way and say we are in a better spot coming to this crisis with a new regime. There is no normal now so when we come back its a clean slate for everyone and I think Judge will have the chance to fully grab control. Not dwaling with players not showing up for workouts or otas and all the BS thay comes with it.
It's the best proposal they put forward, but I'm not sold either
But my feelings on the subject are mixed.

Not a bad idea

This is how the NFL operated for years and the good teams managed.
