Game changer. Saw it in the theater at 5 years old. Blew my mind then, still does. Setting up the projector in the garage this afternoon on a rainy day, popping some popcorn, and watching with my 8 year old.

that was before the days of spoilers in the media and internet, Darth Vader's reveal towards the end blew me away.

In the summer of 1977, after we all saw "Star Wars,"

some of my buddies and I got together to play poker before we went off to college. One of them — who later became my writing partner — said "What if Darth Vader is Luke's father?"

I looked at him and said pretty much what Luke said in the sequel. "No.... No... THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE."

My buddy does not remember saying that. I think he was just messing with us. Who knew?

At the poker table, no less... He should have given some odds on that and laid some money down against you guys.
I was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX, when it came out.

Saw it at a theater in Killeen with a few of my buddies. The place was packed, as you might expect. I remember thinking at one point. Wow, this movie is pretty long. When are they going to wrap things up? Had no idea it was to be the second movie in a trilogy. Heated debate followed regarding Darth Vader. Was he really Luke's father or was he lying?

Also remember seeing a trailer for a movie that looked pretty weird. Went back to the same theater a few weeks later, saw it and loved it. The movie was Airplane.
One of my faves

I may have to find my copy to watch with my boys tonight. A great movie. Nothing will ever come close to the original trilogy for me. I must have seen the original Star Wars (before it was called Episode IV or A New Hope) about 30 times in the theater between it's original release and every re-release before new movies. I might not be remembering clearly, but I know the tally including VHS, DVD, and cable is at least 50 and no other movie comes close.

I still remember the first time I saw it as a 5 year old in 1977. That opening scene in space had me hooked. It looked like nothing else seen in movies before. My jaw dropped. Then I look over at my grandfather, who took me, and he was asleep. WTF? We sat in the last row so he could smoke, too. I don't miss those times.

The next weekend my Aunt was going to be watching me and she planned on taking me to see it. When my Mom told her I already saw it she was upset and scrambling for something else. I insisted we still go. It was the first movie I ever saw more than once. I saw it another 2 or 3 times in first release.
I watched that movie every day one summer.

Big fan of "Good shot Janson." Both was the shit when I was a kid. I always loved Hoth Wampas. Favorite creature from the movie. I always wanted a coat like Hans' on Horh. Also liked seeing Cliff Clavin before he was stuck delivering mail.
