Looking to upgrade my system (Sound Dynamics, NHT (powered subwoofer, Monster Power). I had never heard of these before. I am familiar with Bowers & Wilkins, Polk, RBH. Just doing soem research .
Ona side note, I have ruled one brand out - guy at the store showed me a pair of Wilson speakers $325,000 a pair.
They've been around forever, the Diamond series was considered good.
Were you thinking of Towers ? Or satellites and a subwoofer ??

If you're looking for 'the best of both worlds', so to speak (H/T and 2-channel), I'd go with either PSB or Infinity. I've had PSB in my H/T for years now, and have not felt the need to upgrade. I do have a different set of speakers for 2 channel (Vandersteen), but feel PSB scores well in both genres. But as BC advises, your own ears should make the decision... so try to listen to as many speakers as you can, with as many formats as you can try. Good luck!
stereo system, or a home theater? What is your price ceiling? Does your amplifier have the power to push something large? If it's two channel, you might consider some older brands. I'm running a par of 40 year old Acoustic Research speakers (AR2ax) and the sound is extraordinary. I paid $250 for them.
I've got a pair of B&W's that I'm very happy with.

I had PSB's in my Home Theater in NJ before we moved (I left them there when we sold the house, because of the way the were installed). They were by far the best speakers, when I sat in the listening room, they blew away all the big names. I found a good deal thru Mail Order, saved a bundle.....sorry Best Buy.
Have a Yamaha RX V863 (about 7 years old - Video issue and too old to replace) . Same guy who recommended the Wharfedale speakers, recommended the Yamaha Aventage RX-A780.
Before I relocated I had a friend whose brother sold HiFi gear and did installs. I never had to learn much about it because I would give him the budget and he would give me a few options.
I think I'm in the $500-$600 range for a receiver. I could go higher but is it worth it? The next jump in price basically has to do with more channels and more power correct?
The receiver names I keep coming back to are: Yamaha, Denon, and Marantz (Denon's sister company). I have heard that Marantz will give a better sound re: music - but don't know if that will be an audible difference (for me).
After I get the receiver, I think I'll spend about 40-50% of my budget on speakers.

You’ll want a good stereo/receiver to go with them.
