So there is a discussion on going (at least in Northern NJ) in talking about high school sports and what can be held this fall.
My son is a cross country runner going into his senior year and it looks like his sport is being deemed low risk and will carry on more or less as is this September/October (maybe they start a little later).
But football is being labelled high risk due to the contact, reuse of equipment, etc.
I was talking to the high school football coach and he said the discussion that is going on right now is to swap seasons this year with baseball and football. Considering in Northeast it doesn't really start to get cold until the early part of November, that shouldn't impact high school baseball. And as we hope for more medical advances, the move would be to start football in the Spring.
Thoughts?
Either way, I feel the worst for HS and college baseball players, especially in regions without Fall seasons. A baseball player from this area, for example, is not likely to have played a competitive game for at least 18 months by the time they begin playing this upcoming school year. That is particularly brutal for timing in hitting.
I disagree. We talked about it here in CT how much better the weather was in September and October than in March and April when I was coaching Babe Ruth and my son was playing High School ball. The fall is dryer and warmer.

Once October rolls around the temperature drops and fields are harder to maintain. Unless the season is done by mid-October, I’d hate that move.

But, I will agree with you about March. We never did enjoy our exhibition season here in NYC.
And the chances we'll develop a mass distributed vaccine between September and March seems like a hail mary too
I wouldnt change things up personally
most High School fields have lights in the area so that wasn't a problem

September yes. October can go a number of ways. November, when post season bids and games will be played would be brutal. And it is not just about the temperature. The grass is starting to die, many parks and fields are not normally maintained for baseball play during these months, the dirt is hard and can get bad from rain and early snow.

we never played in NOV except for after Super Storm Sandy when we played on Veterans Day.
