Title says it all. Need another funny sitcom. Dramas are great, but too laborious at times for my ADHD.
For reference, my favorite sitcoms are:
1a) Always Sunny
1b) Seinfeld
3) Curb
4) Silicon Valley
5) The Office
Any recommendations for stuff in this vein?
Cheers
All in the Family
Welcome Back Cotter
Fresh Prince
Home Improvement

Party Down

If you are a ASIP fan I think you'd like it
If I were going to add others not mentioned, I would say:
Arrested Development (people either LOVE this or HATE...very little middle ground... but the first three seasons were amazing...don't bother with the more recent final two seasons which were garbage).
Big Bang Theory (I put off watching this for years as it didn't look like my cup of tea, but the writing is actually pretty funny).
Better Off Ted (Only survived a few seasons but I thought it deserved a longer run).
Going back, as recommended above, you can't go wrong with Barney Miller. (Unfortunately my streaming services only have the first 2 seasons)
You beat me to the punch. You must have been the other guy who watched it.
I agree, it's one of the few sitcoms I investing in buying the series on DVD.
Taxi is another one I did so with as well and a sitcom I would recommend.
Mr Bean is a little quirky and another off the radar series worth watching if you never have.
Not really a sitcom but I have been enjoying Ricky Gervais' show Afterlife on Netflix. It can be a little sad at times but also very funny.
Danny DeVito is brilliant, and quite a few of the recurring and guest cast memebers ended up appearing in Cheers later on as both shows were produced by the same person.

To the poster who mentioned Party Down -- that's another one of my all time favorites. Parks and Rec is also something I've liked when I've seen it, but never stuck with it, just seen random episodes. I love Aziz though, huge fan of my funny Indian-American bretheren.
Gotta say though, Big Bang Theory is one of my most hated shows lol. Maybe I should give it a shot, but I have such a huge aversion to it.
Gonna check out Better Off Ted since multiple people have mentioned it. Might try Brooklyn 99 as I've heard good things as well.
Dick Van Dyke Show - it is amazing how well this sitcom has aged
Peep Show (UK) dark UK brit com
Taxi
Parks and Rec
the aforementioned Arrested Development
See if you can find Episodes. It's from Showtime and stars Matt LeBlanc playing himself, but had some LOL moments
Veep (from HBO, not sure if mentioned, also had some hilariously LOL moments)
sorry if this has all been mentioned, just skimmed the thread.
I don't know why, but I gave it a second chance, watching from the beginning, and got hooked on it. I actually haven't seen the most recent seasons, but think it is one of those rare shows that stayed consistently funny for multiple years.
If you don't like Sheldon's character, you won't like the show. I think he makes the show.

This is a few years old, but Dick Van Dyke still has it.
Dick Van Dyke and the Vantastix surprise a crowd at Denny's in Santa Monica. - ( New Window )
Brooklyn 99
Better off Ted
Happy Endings
The Good Place
If you love Raymond, you have to watch this movie...
Exporting Raymond - ( New Window )
I agree with this the show was very innovative.
I still get choked up when I see this scene...
Last Man Standing VFW visit - ( New Window )
I read the difference was that the first 4 or so seasons "belonged" to Larry Gelbart and it was a writers' show. But then Alda wrested control and it was all about him and got overly earnest, sentimental, cutesy. New/replacement characters paled in comparison. Henry Blake / Trapper John / Frank Burns vs. Colonel Potter / BJ Hunnicutt / C. Winchester... laughable (ironically).

I used to watch it because my dad loved it. We love Frank Burns. But Alan Alda is just painful. The show did not age well.
Still, I remember crying my eyes out when Radar told everyone in the operating room that Colonel Blake's plan crashed.
This!
My father's favorite show. This or Blue Bloods. I think Blue Bloods is the new Matlock.
Danny DeVito is brilliant, and quite a few of the recurring and guest cast memebers ended up appearing in Cheers later on as both shows were produced by the same person.
That would be my suggestion. One of my all time favorites. And a killer cast!

I had an odd aversion to the show while it aired. Yet, coworkers would discuss the show and encourage me to watch it. I just didn't want to watch a show about a bunch of geeks.
It was after the Fappening release of Kaley Couco's pictures that I decided to give it a shot. Watched a random show, and it was funny. But of course, I didn't understand the character relationships. So I gave it an honest shot starting from the beginning. I've really enjoyed the show and like The Office, it is one of the shows that despite seeing every episode multiple times I still tune in to watch.
+1 best ever
That said, Cuoco is enough incentive to watch.
Everybody Loves Raymond mentioned above. Frank was classic.
King of Queens. Arthur hilarious.
Modern Family. I began watching it with my then 8 year old because it came on after the Goldberg's and we just stuck with it. Great ensemble cast, deceptively funny and so subtle my 8-year old didn't get many of the jokes.
They had their final episode this year and it was funny hearing the kids in the cast talk about how they re-watch the show now from the beginning and realize they had no idea why some of the things they said were funny - usually double entendre or innuendo - and now they get it. Well it was funny and I guess a little sad to if you allow yourself to realize many of the kids were exploited and will suffer for it the rest of their lives (probably) like many child actors do.
I also watched the Middle with this same child and she loved it, was sad when it ended.
Also Scrubs (didn't watch with my daughter, but another good ensemble cast.)
I recommend watching all of them as you make your way through the list.
Current SITCOM that is very funny and very clever is: "What We do in the Shadows"

awful, and I didn't realize it but the brunette was the daughter from the 40-year old virgin. So annoying.
She's a talented gal
Can you imagine the shitstorm if they tried to make that today?
It's funny... when that show came out, only Married with Children, Simpsons, and X-Files appeared to be carrying that network. Then they got the NFL. That was a major shock at the time, the NFC going to FOX and the AFC going to CBS.
That wasn't a bad show, but I never stuck with it for some reason.
I watch Golden Girls on the Hallmark Channel regularly. It has classic comedy writing. There are some pretty filthy jokes too but you can miss them because of the context.
That said, Cuoco is enough incentive to watch.
Like I said, she was the only reason that I did watch the random show. It was funny, but I was missing the character relationships. Gave it a shot from the beginning and now I watch it whenever channel surfing even though I've seen every show multiple times.
Eastbound and Down (definitely 1st season)
Veep
Larry Sanders Show
Others...
Martin (All-time underrated show)
Scrubs
Chappelle Show
Married with Children
The Simpsons (Before Season 9)
Speaking of comedy central shows, I should have put Broad City in place of The Office in my "shows I like as reference points" list

Might have to pass on Big Bang Theory though -- I find Sheldon's character to be insufferable, so, as you said, I probably wouldn't like that show.
This is a bit of a tangent, but IMO, it's Always Sunny vs Seinfeld for the top spot for funniest show of all time. I actually think Sunny edges out Seinfeld, but similar to Arrested Development, it only hits its potential once you get to know the characters.
Parks and Recreation
King Of Queens
Scrubs
Watching Dabney Coleman lip sync to Hit the Road, Jack while wearing a grass skirt was one of the funniest scenes ever. That was offbeat humor at its best.
In terms of recent stuff Veep is great (with 2 vets of Seinfeld and Arrested Development).
Brand new I like Fleabag very quirky and not for everyone and am now enjoying The Great on Amazon Prime - kinda a thinking man's Schitts Creek.
Did you see the 2 part doc on him on HBO? It's a MUST watch.
2. All In The Family
3. Get Smart
4. The Odd Couple
5. Barney Miller
6. Seinfeld
7. Everybody Loves Raymond
8. The Office (American Version)
9. Curb
10. Larry Sanders
Obviously most of these are shows I watched as a kid. But I really really really like Everybody Loves Raymond a LOT! And I never saw a single episode in its original run. Someone at work recommended it to me as they thought it was up my alley and they were right.
Funny with The Office...most people seem to prefer the British version, and while I liked it, it just seemed a bit too dark to me, especially David. I find that I like the Michael Scott character much more than David Brent.
And Keeping Up Appearances on PBS. Richard is my hero.

But my top four are Northern Exposure, Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared and Wonderfalls.

Freaks and Geeks is one I MUST watch. I love all the actors in that show, I love Judd Apatow. Might jump into that first
I didnt consider F&G a sitcom and thats the only reason it didnt make my list. Awesome show.
For those who said What We Do in the Shadows, check out the original movie with Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. One of my favorite comedies of all time. Its really that good.

Speaking of adult animation, Rick and Morty is incredible. It's definitely not something that would gel with the people who are on this board, but oh man, that show is incredibly hilarious.
I love just about everything on Adult Swim. Rick and Morty is the crown jewel, but theres so many legitimately awesome original shows. My favorites are probably Check It Out with Dr. Brule and The Eric Andre Show. Also been digging Joe Pera Talks with You. Tim and Eric's new show Beef House is pretty good too. Really hoping to see a second season of Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal soon, which I think is deserving of some awards. Its amazing that such good shows can be relegated to strange overnight time slots and still find a diehard audience.
Tim and Eric are also awesome. I like their horror/comedy Bedtime Stories series.
But one thing that is universal IMO is Check It Out -- John C Reily is a national treasure
May have missed it but all in the family still holds up as well, and is obviously top tier.
Some others that are a more recent and not entirely sitcomy - Schitt's Creek, Sex Education, Fleabag, Mrs. Maisel, Master of None. It also sounds like you would really like Community.
Danny DeVito is brilliant, and quite a few of the recurring and guest cast memebers ended up appearing in Cheers later on as both shows were produced by the same person.
Another from my childhood that I've caught a few times recently and can't watch is Diff'rent Strokes.
Quote:
I hadn't seen that show in decades, and its still as funny as I remembered it being.

I always loved Taxi. Judd Hirsch is my cousin (I never met him, but my mom saw him aot as a kid). Jim is the best character in TV history, in my opinion.
I have read a few articles saying that Michael Richards used the character of Jim as an influence on his portrayal of Kramer.

nobody said, "Two Broke Girls" that's the worst sitcom that lasted far too long.

For me the saddest part is seeing Garret Morris reduced to that crap. And I usually like Jennifer Coolidge, but asking her to do that Eastern European accent was a brutal decision.

Master of None..... I love Aziz, everyone tells me I need to watch this show, but its way way way too real to me. Bugs me out. I'm literally watching my life and insecurities on screen -- I'm sure it'd be cathartic to some degree, but its a pill thats hard to swallow. When it came out, I was literally an Indian-American working as a production assistant that was living in NYC. Felt too real, couldn't enjoy it

I also used to think the early years (McLean Stevenson, Wayne Rogers) were great and then it declined but a couple of years ago I saw some season 1 and 2 episodes and nah, it was never very good. The laugh track doesn't help but mostly it's just not funny.
The movie, OTOH, is still great though falls into the category of movies that you couldn't make today since the sexism is off the charts.
Is there going to be a season 3? Hope so.
Gillian Anderson is award worthy IMO.
Understatement.
Possibly greatest show of all time.
#sixseasonsandamovie
If you get to episode 7 and don't fall in love with it, you are missing something .. lol
Cast is absolutely stacked

Dude..Rick and Morty is the 2nd best show created by Dan Harmon...
The best??
The aforementioned "Community"
Wet Hot American Summer
New Girl
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
South Park
Glow
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Barry
Flight of the Concords
Silicon Valley

I believe I read they greenlight a 3rd season but not positive, I'm pretty sure it did well for them so I'd be surprised if they didn't but all productions are in limbo right now so who knows. S2 ended on kind of an over cliched low note so I hope they have a chance to fix that and not end there.
And Keeping Up Appearances on PBS. Richard is my hero.
Holy Shit. Wonderfalls. One of my favorites that almost no one knows about. It's so hard to describe the premise to people.
Seinfeld
The Office
Friends (sister got me into it during season 2 and have always enjoyed it)
Everybody Loves Raymond
Big Bang Theory
King of Queens
Two and a Half Men (mainly the Sheen years)
Chappelle’s Show
Arrested Development (the original seasons, not what Netflix did)
Raising Hope (as mentioned above)
If you like British comedy, seasons 2 and 3 of Black Adder is peak Rowan Atkinson brilliance.
...Soap
Fleabag on Amazon.
30 Rock on Hulu.
Soap was hilarious, until it got stupid. I guess all shows run out of ideas after a while.
That is ny recommendation. Very funny
Coupling - British show
Modern Family
Honeymooners
Barney Miller - best them song
Mash - first season until Henry was killed off
I saw Community when it first aired in ‘09-‘15 and I forgot
most of it. I’m currently binging it and am in Season 2. The Halloween episode, and the conspiracy themed episode with Professor Professorson - absolute classics. Incredible show.
