Everything is tentatively booked, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on the damn Covid....My ultimate goal is to be in town for my first “home” Giants game that Monday night... but the wife’s bday is a nice backup reason to hit NYC and get in the eats and sights!
I’m 42, and from Texas (weird NYG fan, I know) but I’ve only seen the Giants live in AZ and Dallas (which gets old, I was there for the opener last year). I was able to visit NY/NJ back in 2010 but it was for work and I only got to spend one day in NYC and one afternoon checking out the New Stadium. But it was offseason so no access was permitted. Saw just enough of the City to know I'd return one day, with more time to spend. It’s such a nice place...
This time (hopefully) we can see a game live, but either way I’d love some suggestions on restaurants that are “must visit” and any advice on how to spend 4-5 days checking the city out.
We are staying at The W in Times Square, so hopefully we are in a good spot to home base it from!
What are BBI’s “if you had to pick one”: best steakhouse or fancy restaurant and then what other “must try” eateries are out there?
Thanks for any advice, and obviously if they allow fans into the stadium, I’ll have to link up with my fellow fans from BBI! I’ve been on the site since ‘97 so it would be really cool to meet some fellow BBI’ers!
Thanks for your help!
I wish I had a better answer for you, but I don’t think anyone has any idea how this is going to shake out.
It's kind of touristy - but it's convenient to the W and the food is excellent. it's family style though, so for a couple might be a lot of food.
If you really want a steak house I'd go to Sparks. Walkable on a nice night, but from what I have heard Peter lugers is no longer a cut above the other popular steak houses and I've never had a bad meal at Sparks.
Steak--I love Smith & Wollensky East side. Great, not cheap.
Seafood- Try AquaGrill Spring Street, downtown.
Have a good time, hope you get to see a them win a game.
A bit touristy maybe but I'm addicted to old school red sauce joints. Their veal rollatini Marsala is incredible.
Have a fooking whiff of adventure and sense of what makes NYC great! Diversity, a cultural melting pot, authenticity in ethnic arts, culture, music and (most importantly) food.
Chinese, Cuban, Indian, Japanese, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, French... Heck 20 years ago I'd say Czech and German, less so now.
For fucks'sakes don't go to a steakhouse in your 1 week or so in Manhattan, if you're coming FROM TEXAS.
My bad, carry on.
Its classic and amazing. Has an old school feel
And to the poster, if you're staying in Times Square the Palm West is a reasonably good steakhouse on W 50th Street between Broadway & 8th Ave. Steaks are good but my favorite dish there is their chicken parm. They are open for delivery or take out. Also, they have some great lunch specials from 11:00 to 3:00 - a chicken parm sandwich or pasta bolognese or a burger for $10, lobster rolls for $15 or a filet mignon for $20. If the weather is good go pick up your food and then walk over to Central Park for a picnic, because it's not clear that they'll be open for in-house dining by then.
Enjoy!
I appreciate everyone’s input, thanks again!
